  1. Snowzilla

January 25, 2016 by Ms. Indellicate

    Hi everyone!

Ms. Lindauer and I miss seeing and teaching all of you! We hope you are taking this time to… play in the snow! Some of my favorite childhood memories are from sledding and snowman making.

We look forward to reuniting at George Mason, hopefully sometime this week.

    =)

  2. Buddy Classes!

January 19, 2016 by Ms. Indellicate

Ms. Indellicate’s 5th grade math classes shared their business plan proposals with their buddy classes. Ms. Thorne’s second grade class and Mrs. Schmunck’s kindergarten classes loved learning about starting your own business.

  4. STEM Activity

January 3, 2016 by Ms. Indellicate

Students used the elements of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) to plan a create a “cell phone tower.” The task was the create the tallest tower using the lowest cost per inch of materials. Students designed, built, redesigned, and rebuilt their towers. Once their structure was able to stand on its own, students measured, and used their Chromebook to photograph their work. They created a document with the photo and wrote a reflection of their project.

  5. Google Classroom Update

    December 17, 2015 by Ms. L

Greetings families! I wanted to update everyone about the use of Google Classroom in 4th and 5th grade reading and math. As the year progresses, “Classroom” will be used more and more as the transmission mode of assignments and projects. What this means for you and your student:

    • Your students will be using less paper
    • Your students will continue to grow as 21st century learners
    • Your students will have an increaded opportunity to collaborate with their peers
    • You will see less graded papers coming home in Thursday folders
    • You will be able to view your student’s grades and assignments via their Google Classroom account

I hope everyone has a relaxing and rejuvinating Winter break.

    Best,

    Jennifer and Gina

  7. Ice Cream in a Bag

November 22, 2015 by Ms. Indellicate

This Thanksgiving break, pair measurement with good taste-make ice cream in a bag!

    1) Take a small sized sealable (Ziploc type) bag and add

    1/2 cup of milk

    1 tbsp of sugar

    1/2 tsp of vanilla

    2) Seal it up, getting rid of as much air as you can. Now double bag it inside a similar-sized bag.

    3) Throw 4 cups of crushed or cubed ice with 6 tbsp of salt in a large freezer bag.

(The salt is there to lower the freezing point of water)

    4) Put in your little double bag, and seal the large bag around it, getting rid of as much air as possible.

    5) Shake It!

Shake the bag for at least five minutes before checking on its progress.

    6) When you remove the smaller bag, wipe it down carefully to get rid of all the salt on the outside.

    Enjoy!!

  10. Google Classroom is Up and Running for 5th Graders in TAG LA

    November 8, 2015 by Ms. L

Google Classroom is an amazing instructional tool. There are so many advantages to using “classroom” for assignments and assessments over traditional paper and pencil ones. Your students are already familiar with using Google Drive so the transition from paper to cloud based has been seamless. When the Chromebooks are distributed, your students will be able to hit the proverbial ground running! Have no fear “old schoolers” about the potential death of the pen and paper. Not all instruction and work is geared towards using a virtual/online method. Your students will still need to put pen to paper!

I am including a link to a short youtube clip to give you more information about Google Classroom. Also, please have your students show their Google Classroom assignments to you.

*A note to 4th grade parents:
Your students are still learning Google Drive and the capabilities associated with it. I suspect that they’ll be able to access assignments through Google Classroom within the next week or so.
