Mr. Johnson and Evan discussing the energy use at Polk
Mr. George Johnson and Evan met last week. Evan was sharing his data charts that he created from the water, gas and electric bills. Mr. Johnson is THE ENERGY MAN at ACPS and it was wonderful that he scheduled a visit to Polk to meet with the Environmental Class.

NEW DATE: June 13, 2013 is our new Grand Opening for the Greenovation Lab at James K. Polk Elementary School. Today fifth grade students had to postpone their field trip to Six Flags because of rain. They rescheduled for Wednesday and Polk needed to push the Spring Concert from Wednesday to now Thursday. Therefore, we need to change our grand opening date to coincide with the concert schedule.

The Spring Concert starts at 6:30
DonorsChoose.org grant was fully funded!!
Congratulations to The Environmental Class!! In seven days we had our DonorsChoose.org grant funded!!!! Wahoo!!! Our donations will arrive in September 2013 at the beginning of the school year. It might sound late; but we’re looking forward to our educational materials and tech supplies. We asked for six books to have at our fingertips instead of checking them out at the local public library. The titles are: Mission: Save the Planet, True Green Kids: 100 Things You Can Do to Save the Planet, Inconvenient Truth, An: The Crisis of Global Warming, The Shocking Truth About Energy, Green Power, and Sneaky Green Uses for Everyday Things. Several of these titles were favorites of the students; I’m thrilled we’ll have them at school for everyone to use.
In addition we were funded a mini-ipad and twelve Sony headphones. These items will come in handy when the mini ipads are used in the art classroom and the students are working in pairs. I realized that we needed an additional mini ipad when we were using the mini ipad with the fourth grade classes. They were researching images of their famous Virginians and we really needed one more mini ipad for the classes of 24 students. With the increasing class sizes we will soon have 26 kids; I’ll guess I’ll have to write another grant in the near future.
