Odyssey of the Mind

Odyssey of the Mind

An information session for parents and teachers interested in Odyssey of the Mind will be held on Wednesday, October 12 at 6:30 in the Douglas MacArthur Elementary library.

Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. Team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics. They then bring their solutions to competition on the local, state, and World level. Thousands of teams from throughout the U.S. and from about 25 other countries participate in the program.

Each year the TAG office supports Odyssey of the Mind team membership fees for any schools who are interested in fielding a team. Odyssey of the Mind depends heavily on parent support through coaching and guiding the students, organizing practices, attending tournaments and supporting efforts to support students as they work together to solve interesting real-world problems.

For additional information or questions, please contact Donna Brearley, TAG Coordinator, frances.brearley@acps.k12.va.us, 703-619-8024 or the Odyssey of the Mind website odysseyofthemind.com

Saturday Enrichment Program at William and Mary University

The Center for Gifted Education is accepting registrations for the Fall 2016
Saturday Enrichment Program (SEP). The 2016 Fall program will begin on
Saturday, October 29 to December 3 (no class during Thanksgiving week) in
Richmond, consisting of 5 Saturday sessions.

SEP is an academically challenging program with an emphasis on inquiry-based
learning for students enrolled in grades K–9. It is not meant to supplant the
regular school curriculum; rather, it recognizes the importance of allowing
able students to explore additional specialized areas of science, mathematics,
humanities, and the arts.

The program’s brochure is accessible through the Center’s website at
http://education.wm.edu/centers/cfge/precollegiate/sep/index.php. If you have
any questions or if there is anything we can assist you with, please do not
hesitate to contact the CFGE office at (757) 221-2166 or sep@wm.edu.
