ACPS has purchased a new program called Securly Parent Portal that allows parents to monitor their child’s online activity outside of school. Parents will be getting a letter explaining this new program in the mail this week. Follow-up emails will be sent on November 26th which will include username and password information. There are no necessary actions on your part but we wanted to let you know about it in case parents or students mention it to you. TourBuilder with Google
TourBuilder with Google is a great digital tool for students to create their own virtual field trip. Students use their ACPS Google account to login. They can then select locations from around the world (Versailles, Himalayas, Cuba, etc). TourBuilder will open the location in Google Earth and mark it. Students can then add still images or video as well as text about that location. This is a great tool for helping students develop geographical sense and visualization skills.
Helpful chromebook shortcuts
Chromebook shortcuts student use work on your chromebook as well! We especially like CRTL + “+” to zoom in your screen and CRTL “-” to zoom out. Although hitting the Search button + “L” to lock screens is pretty helpful too!
Free WiFi Map
Please share this map with students that indicates free wifi in our area. In addition, students that do not have Internet access at home should see Mr. Outlaw in the library about checking out a Kajeet which will allow them to have access the Internet through their chromebook even if their home does not have Internet access. https://blogs.acpsk12.org/studenthd/free-wifi-map/
