What types of work will the intern perform?
Management of 60 employees as well as serve as a Deputy Emergency Manager. Serve as a member of the National Capital Region Incident Management Team. Specific responsibilities of the position include:
- Insuring the security of the physical site
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with participating departments and jurisdictions involved in the provision of centralized communications dispatch within the City of Alexandria
- Overseeing the hiring, supervising, training and personnel administration for Center staff
- Developing and implementing operating practices, procedures and protocols
- Overseeing the management, installation, operation and maintenance of all department equipment, including radio, telephone, computer systems and data interfaces
- Preparing, administering and recommending the department’s capital and operating budget
- Serving as the appointing authority for the department Participating in the development of the department’s legislative agenda.
- Overseeing the citywide radio system (3,000 users one radio system manager and two radio engineers).

They would enjoy meeting and seeing what goes on behind the scenes of Public Safety Communications Center. Learning about the 911 and emergency response business through the eyes of its management.
