Acting Director/Naturalist
I am presently Acting Director of the nature center. I oversee the daily operations of the center and supervise the staff. As a naturalist, I conduct nature-based programs at the center as well as outreach programs to public and private schools, libraries, Farmers’ Market, and special events. These programs are for people of all ages. The entire staff cares for the collection of live animals including snakes, turtles, frogs, toads, lizards, fish and birds.

What types of work will the intern perform?
The nature center runs an after school program with 15 students (ages K thru 5th grade). An intern would be an assistant with program. They would be helping students with their homework assignments, playing games, outdoor sports and assisting with hikes. An intern needs to be good at multitasking because each day is different with program. Factors include weather, heavy or light homework day or projects that last a few days.
What might a highly motivated intern experience while working for your organization?
An intern would be able to create art projects, informational hikes in our 50 acre nature park, and nature-oriented lessons for the after school students. Also, they might possibly assist with some after school public programs at the nature center or at the City of Alexandria libraries.
