Marion Brunken
Executive Director
An experienced nonprofit leader, Marion Brunken was named Executive Director of Volunteer Alexandria in August 2012. Prior to her service at Volunteer Alexandria, Marion served from 2004 to 2012 as the Employee Engagement Manager at Freddie Mac where she created and oversaw volunteer opportunities in the Washington metropolitan area for over 5,000 Freddie Mac employees. In 2005, she received Freddie Mac’s Premium Achievement Award. Marion began her career in volunteer service management as the Special Events Coordinator with the DC volunteer center, Greater DC Cares, from 1998 to 2002. She followed as Operations Manager from 2002 to 2004 at Volunteer Alexandria (then called the Alexandria Volunteer Bureau). A native of Germany, Marion is a graduate of Leadership Alexandria’s first class (2004) and has served as a Virginia Volunteer since 2009 for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates). She also holds a master degree in social work.

What types of work will the intern perform?
- Provide customer service: greet visitors, answer questions, and answer the phones; possible making appointments for clients
- Data entry: keep track of volunteers and their hours; data base clean up
- Special events: update websites and forms, make calls
- Writing: newsletter articles
- Might help with tools and supply inventory
- Conduct research on certain topics
What might a highly motivated intern experience while working for your organization?
Work with other volunteers serving on committees, create/update materials for events, meet other non-profit staff, write articles to “tell our story”
