1) What kind of work has your intern been doing in your classroom or office? How does having an intern impact the normal functioning of your workplace?

2) How has your intern grown professionally since the beginning of internship? What experiences have you provided to guide this growth?

JEFF JOHNSON

Edith has been helping individual students and small groups during class and after school. She has already established a relationship with several of our students who consistently need support in algebra. During class, she is able to sit down with them and provide a relaxed, more thorough type of support while I work my way around the room and answer short questions here and there. While she helps one or two groups of 1-3 struggling students, I am able to get around to the rest of the students who just need a little push or a little help. After school, some of the students that she works with during class actually come and seek her out for more help!

ANN JACOB

I am a seventh grade math teacher at Francis Hammond Middle School. My intern has performed many roles in my classroom so far. First of all, he has developed positive relationships with my students. I firmly believe that is the key to success in the classroom. From developing these relationships, he has been able to work with some of my most challenging students to make them effective in the classroom. During one of my class periods, he pulls out a group of students (5-6) and teaches them a logic based lesson where the students have to work together to complete a task. The kids love working with my intern and he creates an environment that is rewarding and enriching. My intern also inputs grades and attendance as well as grades assignments. Lastly, he supports with after school tutoring going over students misconceptions and explaining their work to them. His work has been a tremendous benefit in the classroom because the students are getting more individualized attention both from me and the intern. As a result, I can see the kids becoming more confident with their math every day.

The interns participated in fundraiser events for the Raider’s/Drill team, cleaned and organized spaces for equipment in the supply room, learned how to answer phones, communicate with customers, copying and running errands. We will also take the students out on Site visits on the Joint bases Army and Marines location Ft. Belvoir, VA and Ft. Meyer VA. Through reflection, students gain and appreciation for the experience and self-confidence in their abilities. The impact interns have on the workplace is amazing. The workplace areas are always kept well organized, we get regular feedback from work performance, and we have ongoing improvements in the workplace and always accept changes.

My intern assist around classroom. He scaffold low level students to complete in-class assignments. During warm up time, he mentors low level students and read aloud for them. During presentations, he is given guidelines rubric to follow up with assessments.

EDUARDO CALLEJA

Mr. Moreno, my intern, has started working on developing lesson plans for Spanish IV, 7th period. He has also started working on classroom management and is already delivering instruction for a total of 30 minutes per class. As we further develop his teaching skills, he will gradually increase the amount of time he teaches.

Having an intern affected my workplace in the following manner: 1) The amount of planning time has increased because I need to make sure I prepare material for Mr. Moreno to develop his teaching skills; 2) The amount of classroom instruction delivered by me has decreased as Mr. Moreno has started to teach 30 minute blocks; 3) The time for grading material has decreased as well since I have to confer with Mr. Moreno to give him feedback on his practices in the classroom; 4) the attention focused on the students decreased as well since I have to observe and take notes for the intern.
