Hello Families,
I hope you are enjoying this warm winter!
I can’t believe that we are beginning the third quarter of our school year. It has been an amazing experience getting to know all of the students and families thus far, and I am looking forward to seeing them grow even more as the year progresses.
We have begun our geography unit in social studies, and students are on their way towards creating a high quality, accurate, map of the world. They are beginning to self-assess using a rubric. The task involves the production of a map with a prime meridian, the hemispheres, continents, oceans, a compass rose, and other criteria. They are exploring atlases and becoming expert navigators. Ask your child about their map!
Here is a resource that demonstrates the importance of developing self-assessment skills with your child. Being comfortable with critique and working towards high quality work is a valuable skill to develop for people of all ages.
