Darkest Hour by V. C. Andrews

Emily is a girl who does not like her “sister” because she envies her for being smart and friendly, she also does not like her because she found out that Lillian is actually her cousin not her sister. fortunately, her parents adopted Lillian because her mother died right after giving birth. When the book describes Lillian it helps me visualize how Lillian physically is, “You were a beautiful baby with your features already quite formed, perfect feature.” When her adoptive mother describer her I’m able to imagine a gorgeous baby.  Lillian has always been beautiful and it makes me think that Emily envies her because even though she is adopted and her parents treat her the same way as they treat Emily and that’s what she does not like. I can also picture  Emily trying to make her sister feel uncomfortable when the book says, “I didn’t whine and cry like a baby, she insisted, glaring at me across the table.” when I read this I can picture the family at the diner table and Emily saying insinuating things about her sister and glaring at her like she hated her. Emily can’t stand the fact that her sister is somehow better than her.
