Independent Reading #19 – Questioning
March20
This week in “Black Hawk Down”, there was a ranger on the brink of death. “Durant kept his eyes on the sky as the mob closed over him…he was engulfed in a great wave of hate and anger…and he felt no pain and the fear lessened and then he passed out.” (Bowden 239.) This war is very serious; and it shows in this example. I wonder why the Somalians are choosing to torture this man opposed to just killing him? Where is Durant’s backup? How did he get placed into being all alone with the Somalians which eventually led to his death? I feel for this man because I cannot begin to imagine the pain and suffering he encountered in his final moments. It is a very harsh reality, but unfortunately it probably happens quite often in wars.
