Freedom Writers is a true story about a group of High School kids called the rejects. Everyone bailed on them and no one believed in them. These kids began to think of themselves as everyone else did. May didn’t have hope for the future or care about anything. This book is divided by diary entries. Each student writes an entry, including the teacher. One of the entries that I read was about this girl who witnessed her friend murder someone. In trial she was going to defend him and say that he didn’t do it but once she saw the wife and kid of the one who was being blamed for it, she blurted out, “Paco did it! Paco shot the guy!” That was the ending to her entry. The main idea of this is that even though you were raised to protect your family, (gang family) you should always do the right thing, even if it means going against “protecting” them and that is what this girl did.
