AND STILL WE RISE~~
Woo!!! this is very interesting, being able to blog a part of a novel for a review work, pretty exciting i should call it. The novel which i have picked up to read is all about twelve gifted inter-city student ( their trials and also their determination to reach the top of their academic ladder).
The level which i am right now is all about two of the characters of the play, called Sabreen ( one of the student of the Gifted Inter City School), and Mr Braxton ( the registrar and also one of the school’s senior counselors). One of the topics which this blog (BLOCK 3) is based upon is visualization, so am going to narrate the story in terms of visualization. ( i hope you guys wouldn’t get dazzled when you read through this blog ). 🙂
One of my character as i see her ( Sabreen), is a mother, ( because she already has a child). She comes into her counselors office; Mr Braxton, and thanked him for his support in helping her find a foster home for her. She also told him that she cannot pay the usual $265 a moth for child care which the state which she lives in (Crenshaw) demanded of her. She wants to leave the inter city school for another school out of Crenshaw. She is in English 11 getting ready for her SAT exams and college exams. She works 30 hours a week ( to jobs) in other for her to keep her baby’s body and her own body together. (by the way she isn’t living with her parents anymore, ( they disowned her because of her child). Now back to my world of visualization; Sabreen is talking with her counselor but the counselor is not very pleased with her, he had seen a very bright side of her and he is so worried that she might not be able to bring that bright side of her come to pass in her studies. As i read further,Sabreen had already moved for Crenshaw into another side of town( which is very far away from the inter city state school. She now ended up in a worst situation than she already is. The new foster care which she moved into wasn’t the ideal place for her and her child; who is 1 year old. Some times she misses her English class for 1 week, which is not good for her.
To sum it all up, she has a SAT test to take two weeks from now, and the exam is the last thing on her mind that she can think of right now. She is to busy working at her work,in order to meet up with school work, she started taking online classes. In most part of Crenshaw only the rich kids whose parents are wealthy pay for tutors to come and have extra lessons with their kids, as the time for the SAT exams draws near, most parents have already payed hundreds of dollars to tutors to come and help their kids prepare for the exam. But kids like; Sabreen who have no one to turn to for financial help and those whose parents her poor cant avoid the privilege of hiring a tutor for their kids, so these kids tend to be slacking when these external exams comes and the perform poorly as well.
But in the case of Sabreen and the other student of the gifted class, they already are smarter and well intelligent than the rest kids. So they do a little better in these exams. But the problem is that she doesn’t have the time to study, she is so busy that she doesn’t seem to care about her exams, at the end she didn’t have a really great score. She scored a 675 for the English SAT exam which was enough to get her a scholarship. So she has to take it again. Who knows if she will be interesting in taking the exam again, but only time will tell. But till then lets keep our fingers crossed and wait to see if the wind of fortune will blow in favor if her………….
THANKS FOR READING.. 🙂
