Blog post #5 Connection
The book Origin brings up many questions and theories, but the most noticeable one is the famous debate over nature vs. nurture. In the book, Pia is born through scientific discovery and is treated like one. She is expected to lead a race of immortals. As Pia is raised, since her creation, her father left her and her mother ignored her for most of the time. Pia never grew up with a loving family, thus her “scientific family”, the scientists that created Pia, took her in and raised her. The nature vs. nurture debate is the relative importance of an individual’s innate qualities versus personal experiences in determining or causing individual differences in physical and behavioral traits. With this in mind, Pia’s scientific innovations maker her the perfect person to lead a race of immortals; on the other hand, this makes her the worst person to choose because that’s all she has, scientific innovations. Pia does not know the true meaning of living or being human; in fact Pia never learned how to be a leader growing up.
