My Life As Pearl

November8

The end of my father’s life was very traumatic for me. I saw my father confess and yes I always knew that Dimmsdale was always my father deep in my heart. He announced to the townspeople that he is my father and he committed a sin. I looked out to the crowed and people were shocked. I did not know what  to say but to cry. I look up to my mom and she was crying too. “With a convulsive motion he tore away ministerial band from before his breast. It was revealed.” (pg.209) I took my dad hands as he grabbed his chest and fell down to the ground. I was clueless of what was happening and I saw his life come out of him and then I knew then he was dead.

A year later, my life truly changed forever. Chillingworth, that creepy little man died too. Surprisingly, he left all his money to me. Why me? Why did he give me all this? “At old Rogers Chillingworth’s deceased and by his last will and testament… he bequeathed a very considerable amount of property… to little pearl.” (213). Even before the money, everyone noticed I had changed. I no longer acted like a weird child. I started acting normal, and then before I knew it my mom took me to England.

In Massachusetts I was an outcast, everyone looked at me as a child that was not supposed to be here. In England was a brand new beginning. I was no longer “the elf child”. I was just me, Pearl. I ended up getting married having children and living like everyone else. But for some reason my mother still wanted to wear the Scarlet letter. I told her to get over it. Even though I did not want her to, she decided to go back to Boston. She wanted to be buried right next to my dad. Even though my mother is gone now, I am proud of the women that raised me.
