I understand what I read better because it makes me think of the definitions of tyranny and dictatorship. The definition of tyranny is: “[a] cruel and oppressive government or rule.” This type of government resembles that of the government in The Hunger Games, Taking the kids from our districts, forcing them to kill one another while we watch- this is the Capitol’s way of reminding us how totally we are at their mercy”(Collins 76). The Districts of Panem are looked down upon by the Capitol, thus explaining the harsh treatment they receive by the Capitol. Niccolo Machiavelli wrote that rule by any single person is considered a tyranny ruled government, regardless of its legitimacy. The Capitol would be that tyrant to rule over all the others by asserting its dominance when destroying District 13, the District struck by a nuke in the first rebellion. As the story continues, the people learn that the Capitol’s tyranny must come to a conclusion soon.
