In the book Robert Hunt, a friend of Watson’s daughter is kidnapped. When she is returned Watson and Hunt receive a letter that says “…You may take any precautions you care to, but they will not prevent me from taking her again…” (Perry 53). The letter is sent by someone named “M.”, I predict this is Professor Moriarty. This is one of Sherlock Holmes worst enemies and this wouldn’t be a Sherlock Holmes book without him. At this moment in the book Holmes is not involved in the case and if the kidnapper is Moriarty this case will intrigue Holmes. Moriarty knows that Watson is a friend of Hunt and that if Watson needs help trying to find the kidnapper he will go to Holmes so Moriarty probably is just using this to get to Holmes.
