And the Mountains Echoed, K. Hosseini. (Questioning)
In the Novel’s opening, the narrator (one of the characters, we don’t know who he or she is) is telling a story to Pari and Abdullah, a little sister and her brother, before they fall asleep. The first line of the book is the narrator’s words, “So, then. You want a story, and I will tell you one.” (Hosseini, 1). I wonder why the author, Khaled Hosseini, decided to open the book, And the Mountains Echoed, with this particular story. I wonder why this little story would be significant for the understanding of the book and characters. I wonder if the fact that the main character of the little story is happy in the end after he had to face a terrible loss is connected to the destiny of the two children in the book. Will they have to face a sad loss or will something happen to them?
