Blog post #13 Evaluation
Towards the end of the annual Hunger Games, Katniss finds Peeta near a river and teams up with him. She finds him incapacitated with an injured leg, so she nurses him back to health. While this is happening, Katniss uses the lead Peeta created, the “star-crossed lovers” act, to obtain sponsors for help. Throughout the entire time she was nursing him, in her mind she thought she was romancing with Peeta to survive, but in reality she might have thought some sort of connection was there. She might have had some feelings for Peeta, but then again, she was under heavy pressure with everyone watching her and the other tributes trying to hunt them down. Peeta’s “star-crossed lovers” plan is the angle “Peeta must have been playing [all along]”(Collins 247). The plan worked flawlessly because “why else would the Gamemakers have” changed the rules “for two tributes to have a shot at winning”(Collins 247). With everyone watching Katniss and judging her, her emotions for Peeta might have been clouded and unclear. You can obviously tell Peeta likes Katniss, but Katniss is unsure and confused.
