As Katniss and her group try to survive in the harsh forest they are unaware of the many threats that will be continuous over the course of the games. Every hour a new disaster strikes, leaving the tributes with a new set of challenges to overcomes. However, in this case, at midnight, while they are sleeping in an attempt to regain their energy; are awoken by a mysterious fog. Katniss is the first to awake and notice this odd fog, once she made contact with it, her skin became blistered and infected; the fog was poisonous. With a loud cry, she awakens her allies in hope of escaping in time without having their bodies ravaged. Peeta, Katniss, Finnick, and Mags start running full speed away from the fog deeper into the forest. Since Peeta is injured he cannot move as fast as the others, and Mags, due to her old age, cannot run so she  must be carried by Peeta. After she notices Peeta can no longer continue, Mags runs into the fog after saying goodbye, and signaling to Finnick that he must carry Peeta instead. After barely escaping and having made lots of contact with the fog, the come across a pond, water seems to cure them of the poison. The poison was just as painful getting out as it was getting in, as Katniss said “…a blast of excruciating pain shot through me.” as she bathed in the water.
