17 & Gone (Connection)
On this last chapter a new girl was introduce, Shyann Johnston. The fact that this girl is another girl missing is not as shocking since as I read, more missing girls appear. But the fact that I am able to connect with her is crazy. This girl was African American, and she would get bully a lot. People would “… called her ugly names, and stupid names; any cruel name they could think of, and there were many” (17 & Gone, 161). After reading about her it reminded me about the hard times I had as well. I remembered the ugly names people would call me and how it haunted me like it did with her. She reminds me of myself so much because after being bullied so much, I myself would “… [look] in a mirror and saw what they saw” (17 & Gone, 162) which hurts a lot. I can understand the pain she went through, I know what is like to be in that kind of situation and get haunted with those names, even if they stop it still hurts you and at some point you end up believing them and just live with that.
