The Fault In Our Stars (Evaluation)

March24

Hazel is a cancer survivor and she has a very open mind. Though she survived lung cancer she still knows that someday she’s going to die. Her mom tough, does not seem very supportive, she makes Hazel go to this “Support Group” where a lot of cancer survivors go and meet. I understand maybe in a way it gives Hazel another opportunity to believe in herself but it is also a way to put her down. Her mom wants her to act like a teenager “… make friends, get out of the house and live [her] life” (The Fault In Our Stars, 7) but how is she supposed to do that when she has to be attending the “Support Group”. Hazel is trying to live her life but her mom does not let her do that. I understand she cares about her daughter but if I knew my daughter did not like the “Support Group” she was attending I would let her get out of the group. So instead of being so over protective she should just listen to her daughter and let her have a normal life, let her enjoy every day by doing what she wants to do, that way Hazel can stop thinking about “death” and enjoy her life like a normal teenager.
