Our Students

The F.C. Hammond International Academy is made up of students who have recently immigrated to the United States from countries all over the world. Our students come from 26 different countries.inps world-1024x545

The highest percentage of our students come to us from Honduras, El Salvador, Afghanistan, and Ethiopia, but we also have students from Guatemala, Pakistan, Ghana, Iraq, Sierra Leone, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Dominican Republic, Eritrea, Libya, Nigeria, Puerto Rico, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Montenegro, Sudan, Syrian Arab Republic, and Venezuela.

Our students are working hard to learn English but speak 20 different languages at home. The first languages of our students include Spanish, Arabic, Amharic, Urdu, Twi, Krio, Dari, Pashto, Bengali, Farsi, French, Korean, Loko, Mam, Oromo, Portuguese, Punjabi, Serbian, Tigrinya, and Vietnamese.

HammondIA-e1443721125453Our students bring with them a wealth of unique experiences, perspectives, languages, and knowledge. At the International Academy, we strive to utilize these valuable individual aspects as a resource in our learning and growing together in a collaborative environment.

In the International Academy, our goal is to create a community where students feel safe, welcome, happy, and appreciated. According to a 2016 survey given to students, most of our students feel that their teachers care about them and respect their culture. Our students also report that they enjoyed coming to school and improved their English this year.
