September 24 – Global Read Aloud
Looking for a wonderful way to get your students excited about reading? Looking for a thoughtful way to connect your students to other classrooms around the world? November 12 – Hour of Code with Caroline Doughty
Coding may be one of the most important skills kids aren’t learning in schools. Learn how you can introduce coding in your classroom regardless of the age of students you teach. December 10 – Nearpod, Kahoot and Zaption with Sandra Story
Nearpod, Kahoot and Zaption are digital tools that offer exciting, interactive ways for students to learn and review material. Sandra will share how she uses the programs with her English Language Learners. Learn about how to engage students and collect useful data about what students know and understand.

January 21 – Making Learning Visible with Student Created Videos, Meredith Forbes
Meredith will share with us how she used interactive whiteboard apps like ShowMe to have students record themselves solving math problems. The result? An increase in student discourse and a window into their problem solving abilities. Come to this session to find out more about how you can have students create videos as a method of informal assessment.

March 3 – Minecraft in the Classroom with Dave Talbot
Dave Talbot of Hammond Middle School will show us what this Minecraft is all about. Do you have students that talk about nothing else? Come learn what it is and how it can be leveraged in the classroom to engage learners and increase student achievement. Dave will tell us a bit about how Minecraft EDU works as well as how he has used it in his classroom.

March 17 – Chromebooks in the Classroom with Jennifer Lay
All high school students in ACPS have a Chromebook to use daily at school and at home. Learn about the many helpful features of the Chromebooks and how they can be used to create interactive lessons. Jenn and her students will share how she has used Chromebooks in her Science classroom.

April 14 – Connecting Students with Authors by LaGina Gross
Minne Hoard Librarian LaGina Gross will share the many ways she helps students connect with authors. Whether it is using video conferencing technology, blogs or Twitter, LaGina will share powerful stories of what can happen when students connect with authors.

June 2 – Technology Round-Up
Join us for this lightning fast session where we each share a tech tool or resource that we love. This is a great session to come to and get loads of ideas and websites to try out over the summer. Come share a tool and learn about many more.

September 25, 2014 – App-Smashing

Our first session will be presented by Caroline Doughty, 2nd grade teacher at George Mason Elementary School. She and her second graders have had a blast smashing apps and creating great images and videos that demonstrate their understanding of important topics in her classroom. Come by and hear how you can do this in your classroom and the creativity and innovation her students showed when given the opportunity to test their limits.

October 30, 2014 – Skitch Lessons You Can Use

Lois Lansing, 2nd grade teacher at MacArthur Elementary School will share innovative ways to use the app Skitch in the classroom. December 4, 2014 – Augmented Reality can Augment Interest in Reading

Laura Davise, 6th grade Language Arts teacher at George Washington Middle School has found that using Augmented Reality in her class hooks readers. Not sure what Augmented Reality is? Come hear how it works and how your students can create their own Augmented Reality videos that enhance their reading comprehension and interest in texts.

January 22, 2015 – Blogging in Primary Grades

Kristin Orwig, Kindergarten teacher at William Ramsay Elementary School will discuss her journey with her Kindergarteners: launching blogs, the blogging process at a primary level, what “digital citizenship” is, what her students blogged about, and things she is planning to do differently this year. Learn more about how even our youngest students can begin to see themselves as writers and bloggers.

February 26, 2015 – Digital Portfolios in Weebly

Digital Portfolios are a great way for students to showcase the work they do in class and to share the growth of your students with parents and the community. Jacci Erney, 4th grade teacher at Samuel Tucker Elementary School will share how she has used the website builder Weebly to have her students create digital portfolios. Weebly is a very easy tool to use and can be used in a variety of ways. Learn more about how to use Weebly and why it is an effective tool for students to reflect on their work and track their own progress.

March 26, 2015 – Assistive Technology Is For All Students

Jennifer Holloway of the ACPS Assistive Technology Department will share a variety of resources that can make a difference for students with special needs. She will also show how these resources actually benefit all students. Hear her ideas about using innovative digital tools to get all students engaged and learning.

Matt Henry, English teacher at T.C. Williams High School, is excited to share what having Amplify tablets for every student is like. These new tablets which are designed specifically for K12 classrooms is a game changer for educational technology. Flipping Your Classroom

Many of us have heard the term Flipping the Classroom, but what does it actually look like? How do students respond? What are the challenges and how do you overcome them? Come learn how Alexis has flipped her middle school Social Studies classroom.

In this seminar you will learn what flipping the classroom is, tools to use to support you in flipping the classroom, and best practices when flipping the classroom. Participants will also grow their PLN’s.  There are many resources available to those interested in flipping the classroom, some of those resources will be shared with participants.

Want to encourage young writers? Want to give students a chance to actually Question the Author? Learn how to set up Skype with Authors session. Get tips from LaGina about how to connect with authors. Share your own author experiences.

Want to connect your students to literature and allow them to participate in engaging conversations with an author?  Skyping opens a whole new world on how your students interact with literature.

Skyping with authors in your classrooms, literature circles, book clubs, will allow students to have direct conversations and experiences with characters, places and themselves as digital citizens. Show What You Know with Doceri

Rachel and Brandy share what they knew about Doceri, a digital whiteboard that allows students to record their voices along with images and drawings. Brandy and Rachel are first grade teachers who have been using Doceri during math time as a formative assessment. Students record what they know about the current math topic.
