Making Letters, Numbers, Shapes, and Words

Desired Results: Using fingers, students will correctly form upper and lower case alphabet letters, numbers 1-10, 20 basic shapes, and some 3/4 letter sight words.

Assessment Evidence: The Little Writer app forces students to follow a set path to form each item. Students will hear sounds and see pictures when each item is completed correctly.

Learning Plan:

Time Frame  1 session,  Approximately 40- 50 minutes

Instruction

  • If this session is an introduction to iPads, place iPad under the document camera and have some discussion with students about the parts (volume button, mute/lock button, headphone jack, camera eye, home button, number in white apple on the back)
  • Connect iPad to LCD projector and show student how the apps are organized (pages, groups, group names, app icons)
  • Show students how to correctly close and put away apps
  • Handout iPads and have students locate and open the Little Writers app
  • Demonstrate how to touch the large icon, then drag and collect the small icons to form the letter, number, shape, or word
  • Point out to students the sounds that indicate a correct formation, and demonstrate a success
