We have finished our first full week in fourth grade! Students have been working hard to remember and refine procedures in the classroom and around the building. In Social Studies, students have hit the ground running on our year of “Virginia Studies” by learning about Virginia’s geography. Students were able to name the five border states to Virginia, describe its relative location and are now beginning to learn about the five geographic regions of Virginia.

Students are working in small groups to create digital posters with information and pictures of one of the five geographic regions. They conducted research using text and online resources in preparation for this project. They will be continuing this in-class project early next week and I hope to have some or all of the finished projects displayed before Back to School night this Monday!

I am looking forward to another week of hard work and success! Don’t forget to “follow” our classroom blog by clicking the tab at the bottom right corner of this page in order to receive email notifications!

Have a great weekend,

Ms. Becker

Hello and welcome again to our classroom blog!

It has been a wonderful first week in fourth grade at Maury. Students have been patiently learning and practicing procedures and routines that will help us to use our time efficiently and be successful this school year. On the first day of school, my homeroom spent time meeting new faces, learning about our new school-wide S.A.I.L. acronym, organizing school supplies, and creating a time capsule that they will open again on the last day of fourth grade.

Students in my homeroom are working diligently to create posters that will hang up in the school to remind students how to demonstrate positive S.A.I.L. behaviors!

S=Show respect

A=Act responsibly

I=Manage Impulsivity

L=Listen and Learn

I encourage families to have discussions at home about how students can demonstrate these behaviors in the classroom, hallway, cafeteria, playground, buses and bathrooms. We will continue to discuss these next week as well.

Tonight is our back to school picnic from 5:00-7:00. I hope to see many friendly faces there! I am looking forward to another awesome week next week.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Ms. Becker
