In this book I have i feel great respect for the main character Amari. She has gone through so much between losing all of her family members and then dealing with getting abused everyday. Shes not a coward because she could have tried to commit suicide at anytime during her journey, even though sometimes she says “i wish i could be up there looking over people as my brother is now.” Even though she is twelve years old she is still able to comfort people who live with her at the farm. She tells people to not give up and tries to comfort the little ones that live with her. She shows great strength as she just does as she is told and does not fight back when the white people are pulling her to do this and that.
