In the book “Until We Meet Again” Hakeem hasn’t made any type of communication with Darcy possible. He’s shoving her off and won’t give her time anymore ever sense he found out that he would be moving to Detroit. His dad’s cancer is making it hard for him to work, he was offered a better job that wouldn’t require too much of him. Darcy can’t understand why they can’t get through it, they’ve always been able to get through anything. Hakeem finally shows up at lunch and pulls up a chair to the table with Darcy and there two close friends Cooper and Tarah. It’s the first time in a while they’d seen him. Darcy and Hakeem avoid eye contact. Tarah and Cooper tell Hakeem how they were planning a leaving get together for him (Hakeem). And how they hoped Darcy would be there, as she said she “would try to be there”, that she “might have something else to do that day” (Schraff, 59). Hakeem asks Darcy to meet up with him at the parking lot so they could talk. Darcy agrees to it. He tells her he thinks they should break up. Darcy just doesn’t understand, she feels they been through so much for him to just end it now. She understands times are hard for him, it doesn’t mean get rid of everything you care about. How she’s there for him, she feels it’s not fair to her that Hakeem didn’t give her a chance and just gave up on their relationship. Darcy runs off crying. Brian finds her and gives her a ride home. I can evaluate that Hakeem’s choice of breaking up with Darcy because he felt there was too much going on wasn’t right. He should’ve given her a chance, talked to her. He cared too much about her to just let her go because of that. Distance shouldn’t ruin a relationship with someone you care deeply about. There’s always other ways to work things out. I can predict that Hakeem breaking up with Darcy will lead Darcy right into Brian’s arms. He wants to be there for and with her. Brian and Darcy might just start talking more, and Darcy might take up to the offer sooner than expected about going out to chill with Brian sometime.
