Entry #1 Walden Plan
The habit that I have is cursing a lot to myself. I curse a lot when I am frustrated, mad, or annoyed by something or someone. The habit of cursing makes my life more wasteful because it gives off a bad impression of me to other people and I don’t want that. What will be difficult about trying to break my habit is when I get frustrated with my work I curse to myself. As it says in the story “ the mom believed there was a problem with her kids”( I took my kids offline, 1). I believe I can hold off cursing just for a week, but I need to try and break that habit for good so it doesn’t become a deliberate habit.
In my time that I spend cursing when I am frustrated with my school work. I could use that frustration to try and get some more work done. As it says in the Emerson story “What I must do is all that concerns me, not what people think of me ”(Emerson, 365). What that quote means to me is I just need to do what helps me and not try to worry what others think or how they feel about me. I think doing this rut will better my life and frustration for one whole week. I plan and hope that I can continue you this rut all the time when I get frustrated with my school work.
If you use other words instead of curse words, then you are getting out your frustrations but in a way that won’t give others a bad impression. You need to get a thesaurus and learn some words that would express how you feel. There are also old fashioned words that no one really uses anymore. They can be fun to say and might even make you and those around you laugh. Laughter is GREAT for breaking up tension and frustration. So, words like “balderdash” (you know that is the name of a kids’ game too – when you think the person is telling a lie during the game, you yell “balderdash” at them), or “blooming” as in “blooming homework”, call peoople “cheeky” when they have insulted you, use “codger” when the person is cranky…you get the idea?
