Rut Entry #3

Not playing video games was easier than I thought.  I did not miss playing my favorite games as much as I thought I would.  I was able to spend more quality time with my family talking, watching movies, and having family dinners at the kitchen table.  I would say giving up video games has had a positive effect on my life, especially because of the extra time and attention I was able to spend with my family.  I also was able to spend more time doing things with my friends.  I was able to go outside and get fresh air and exercise as well.  I am extremely glad I had this experience because I learned that I have the power to give up something that I did daily.  My life was simplified because I did not have to argue with my mom about stopping the game to do homework or go to bed.  Henry David Thoreau said “I learned this, at least, by my experiments; that if one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.”

Sounds like you replaced your video games with something that was still social and interactive with your family and friends. When you replace one thing for another and still get the same enjoyment from it you miss it less. Congratulations!
