Week 11 Blog: Free Range Animals
During Week 11, I read an article on free range animals. Free range animals do not live like regular farm animals that we eat. Free range animals live thier lives freely, on an open grass pasture and they live as if they were wild animals. The animals eat the grass and have alot of room to run, play and roam around. This makes for a healthier animal. The Healthier the animal, the healthier the meat we eat. Free range meat has alto more vitamins, minerals and even has omega-3 which is good for our heart.
The definition of “free range” that allows farms to call themselves free range only states that the animals have access to outdoors. This might be that the door to their cage is open for 5 minutes a day and they can call themselves a “free range” farm. There is no standard for how many animals per acre the farm should have or the quality of the outdoors that the animals would be in.
