Blog Post Week 21

April15

This week I read an article on the North Korea problem, and their threats towards the U.S. The article comments on why a war would be devastating for both sides. It says, “A war would be suicidal for North Korea, which cannot expect to defeat the United States and successfully overrun South Korea. War would be horrific for the other side as well. South Korea could suffer staggering casualties. The U.S. would face a destabilized major ally, possible but unlikely nuclear or chemical weapons attacks on its forward-positioned bases, and dramatically increased tensions with North Korea’s neighbor and Korean War ally, China”. However, before explaining how bad this would be, one must first look at the possibility of this even happening. North Korea has threatened the U.S many times before. The only factor that is different this time, is how young North Korea’s leader is. He may not know the red line that separates simple talk, to an all out threat. Even so, China has reason enough to stop any attack North Korea may have planned. On the other hand, Even if none of these reasons existed, I see no logical reason that is enough to attack the U.S.
