The Fault In Our Stars
The Fault In Our Stars, by John Green, is narrorated by a 16 year old girl named Hazel Grace, who has a form of lung cancer. She spends a lot of her time reading her favorite book. An Imperial Affliction, by Peter Van Houten, is an entirely open ended book about a girl very similar to her. The book ends in the middle of a sentence; hinting that the protagonist died or could not continue to write, and nothing is told about all of the other characters. Hazel says “that’s part of what I like about the book in some ways. It portrays death truthfully. You die in the middle of your life, in the middle of a sentence” (Green.) I believe that this theme is going to come back up later in the story. Something, not necessarily her death, is going to change the story entirely and cut it short.
