Mastiff

May15

I finished reading Mastiff and I find myself to be happy and sad at the same time. I am happy that Beka Cooper was able to save the king’s son but I cannot help but feel miserable at discovering Tunstall’s betrayal. This reminds me of the moment in my life when my friend betrayed me. Her name was Leyla, we were close friends and I would tell her things that I would not tell most people.  I knew things about her and she knew things about me. One day I found out that she had told another of my friends a secret that I had solitary shared with her, I was terribly upset. In the book, Mastiff, Tunstall ended up selling his loyalty to those who had kidnapped the king’s son, “No one will tell, lest I give out they were in conspiracy to murder royal blood. Soon enough Baird will be king, I Lord Provost” (Pierce 536). Cooper and I were both betrayed by someone we trusted, even though her betrayal was more severe than mine.

Betrayal can make people feel so lonely and lost. Trust takes such a long time to gain and can be gone so quickly. I always wonder why people betray others and then I wonder if the trust and friendship that was there was real or not. Can it be real for a while and then not or is it never real?
