The Rose that Grew From Concrete.

October19

“Did you hear about the rose that grew
from a crack in the concrete?
Proving nature’s law is wrong it
learned to walk with out having feet.
Funny it seems, but by keeping it’s dreams,
it learned to breathe fresh air.
Long live the rose that grew from concrete
when no one else ever cared.”

This poem by Tupac Shakur is called “A Rose That Grew From Concrete,” In the poem he’s saying how miraculous and rare it is for a rose to grow from concrete but no one is either paying attention or caring. It’s miraculous because plants don’t grow or thrive on concrete because they lack nourishment but this rose accomplished the impossible and no one is paying attention. This poem is a metaphor for himself. He is the rose that grew to become famous and have a voice despite the life he left. He grew up in impossible and hopeless conditions and still thrived and followed his dreams. But now that he’s here no one acknowledges or notices his accomplishments, only the negativity. Here is a video clip of Tupac analyzing what A rose growing from concrete means http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bn9p-vrL268
