Give Me My Child

October25

How dare you take my child away from me! You took all I have left. Pearl is my life. You can punish me however you want but don’t let my sweet child be separated from her mother. “God gave me the child…He gave her in requital of all things else which ye had taken from me” (Hawthorne 91). I promise you that I will do anything you want me to do, but just let me keep my child. Call her a sinner’s child. In addition, she will learn from my mistakes and you can even ask her questions to see how a good mother I am to this innocent child. I will teach her everything she should know about our religion. Also, I found a really good website http://www.historyforkids.org/learn/northamerica/after1500/religion/puritans.htm. This website teaches children about the puritans.

I know that don’t care about what I have to say; you don’t even want to listen to me because I am a sinner. Also, you don’t give me the respect like you do to this Governor and ministers. Please, Dimmesdale, convince them to let me keep my child since they adore you and respect you most. Listen to what Dimmesdale is talking about when he says that I should keep this child. This isn’t too much to ask compared to the shame that you all put me through. I definitely don’t want my daughter to experience the shame of losing her mother just because you think I can’t raise her correctly.

At the end of that long judgment and discussion, they let me keep my Pearl. I feel so happy because she is all that I have since they took away my reputation. So, now I need to keep teaching my child because they might ask her new questions. They want me to suffer so they will do anything to achieve that. Thank God I have the only thing that keeps me alive.

“Give Me My Child”

Your blog entry is very convincing! I love the website about the puritans. It does seem though that Pearl is going to be harrassed throughout her life if you continue to live in this community. Poor thing. Can you think of anything you can do as her mother to help her make friends when she gets older. It seems as though other mothers would not want their sons or daughters to be her friend since she carries the taint of your sin.
