My evaluation of Mayor Cole in The City of Ember, is that he is an over all sketchy character. Mayor Cole is also arrogant because in the book he disrespects Miss Thorn “”Welcome, Mayor Cole,” said Miss Thorn. She held out her hand to him. The mayor made his mouth into a smile. “Miss Thorn,” he said, enfolding her hand.”Mayor Cole is giving jobs to the graduating class of Ember School and does not seem to care about what job each student gets, for this he seems to be the protagonist. The Mayor talks to the kids about their futures in a joking manner. That also makes him out to be an evil character. The way the author describes Mayor Cole makes it seem like he does not want to be there and could care less about the kids’ futures.
