This section of the book is about Corporal Jeremiah Workman and his platoon who are in Iraq getting ready to leave on a mission and what happens once the mission starts.  In the fall of 2004, al-Fallujah was a city in Iraq that had vicious insurgents controlling the city.  The terrorists had killed American civilians, burned their corpses,dragged them through the streets, and then hanged them from a bridge for all to see.  The U.S. Army sent thousands of Marine troops in to attach al-Fallujah in Operation Phantom Fury.  Corporal Workman’s platoon was one of the platoons to go.  Once they got to the city, they were ambushed and several members of his platoon were killed.  Corporal Workman had never seen a dead Marine before.  For a moment, he could not think or even move.  He just stood still.  “We just lost Marines in combat.  I just lost two of my friends.  Pangs of heartache and surges of anger left him battered”(27).  Corporal Workman got so angry, that he grabbed his weapon and and went back into the building to clear it of insurgents.  He was under attack but kept firing his weapon and flinging grenades.  After the fight was over and the building was clear of insurgents, Corporal Workman fought back tears when he thought of what just happened.
