Blog 17 – Battle Heroes Voices From Afghanistan

March5

Master Sergeant Sarun Sar was a member of the Seventh Special Forces Group.  Sar was in Afghanistan in 2003 and again in 2005.  When Sar arrived in the country for the second time, he and his team were engaged in as many as six or seven attacks a day.  Eventually, he was able to focus on his primary goal to gain the trust of the tribal mountain people in Paktika Province, one of the poorest areas in Afghanistan.  They were afraid and wanted someone to protect them against the Taliban.  Sar said it was a difficult task at first.  “The Americans soon were providing security and health care and constructing classrooms, clinics, and town halls.”
