In The Hunger Games Katniss and Peeta are struggling to adjust in the city and meet everyone’s expectations. Peeta is much better at is than Katniss is and Haymitch and Katniss still do not get along. However, Katniss has proven herself to be a strong competitor in the games. The dynamics of the people in the games are interesting and some of the different districts are clearly better prepared for the competition. Katniss and Cinna become great friends and he does a great job bringing attention to Peeta and Katniss with their costumes. She is known as the “girl on fire,” but again, Peeta is much better at this than she is and tension rises between the two. Katniss says, “I don’t know why but he rubs me the wrong way” (54). Peeta wants to train on his own. Katniss has to show the judges her skills and she gets mad at them because they are not paying attention so she shoots at them, hitting the apple that is in a cooked pig’s mouth. She makes quite an impression.
