Skylark

May15

The book that I am currently reading is called Skylark, written by Meagan Spooner. It is about this girl who lives in a world that is powered by magic. This sounds absolutely wonderful until you find out that this “resource” is taken from children and this is when they become adults. Lark was looking forward to this day because she was more than ready to grow up. The bad news is that she turned out to be special; she was able regenerate after her power had been drained. The government used her as the city’s power supply. This was one of the surviving cities after the war, still surviving because of machinery powered by magic. What I find interesting is that this girl had a brother, named Basil, which disappeared. I predict that Lark will find out that Basil was also a source of energy that regenerated. I predict that the disappearance on the expedition was a cover up made by the government. My prediction is based on the fact that while Lark was snooping around she said “I moved slowly down the row of shelves, counting at least a dozen boxes all labeled with my brother’s name” (Spooner 32). This is strange because all of the other kids only had one box, regenerating is probably in Lark’s family blood.

I like your use of your knowledge of biology and genetics to make this prediction of it being “in the blood”. Nicely done!
