Blog#29 – In the Blink of an Eye

June5

When Michael Waltrip  was eleven years old, his dream was to become a NASCAR driver.  One day, he got up enough nerve and asked his dad if he would buy him a go-kart.  Michael’s father said “Yeah, we know you do.  SO does every other kid in this town.  They all want to do what your big brother is doing.  Get over it and go ride your bike”.   His father was too busy with his job at the Pepsi plant and was much older then when his brother Darrell was starting to race.  his father worked at the plant all day and did not want to spend all night working on the go-kart.  So much goes into building the fastest go-kart, that you need a lot of time and money for the best parts.  Michael would just have to find another way.

“The things they carried” Question

June5

In the book there was this one girl that had come to visit her lover. She was very tall and the other guys liked her. She was very nice. She had been staying with the soldiers for quite sometime and she had learned some skill while with them. “At the end of the second week, when four casualties came in, Mary Anne wasn’t afraid to get her hand bloody” (Page 98).  The other guys had noticed that she had changed after a while. She was more fierce now her attitude had changed  she had become more like a soldier. Could this happen to anyone if they were to stay with soldier for a while? Will your attitude change?

The things they carried main idea

In the book “The things they carried,” it starts out by saying how first Lt Jimmy cross carried letter from a girl named Martha. “First Lieutenant Jimmy Cross carried letters from a girls named Martha, a junior at Mount Sebastian College in New jersey” (page 1). In chapter 1, narrator explains what he and he comrades carried with them when they were in Vietnam during the war. The narrator also tell what equipment they carried and how much it weighed. He also talks about the letters he got from the girl Martha and tell that those letters are not love letter but he wouldn’t mind if they were. He also specifies what type of ammunition they had with them. The main idea of this chapter is just explaining how much weight they had from all there equipment and introducing the main character Jimmy Cross and where they were at which was in Vietnam during the war.

Eyerusalem

Based on the story of The Other Side of Truth, I do not understand why the Nigerian government is so cruel. “Every day we are robbed under our own noses. And it’s no use complaining to the police. Why? Because they are the robbers.” (Naidoo 26). People are very angry about their government. Why isn’t the president doing anything? What will happen if the people protest? Why aren’t the people protesting?

Should Firearms be legal to those at the age of 18?

June5

I was reading this article on CNN.com and it was talking about if they should have a law for people at the age of 18 so that they can carry around guns. But the catch is it will all depend on what neighborhood theylive in. I honestly think that this is a bad idea because anybody can lie about where they live and put a address in that neighborhood to get a gun. I think that the crime rate will raise a tremendous amount only because now people will find a way to get a giun. I can connect to this because I know a lot of people who have either been hurt or killed by someone underage who has had a gun. If they allow people to get guns at the age of 18 not only will it be stupid it will be dangerous. at the age of 18 you are still a child so you are going to do child like things, they should keep the law the way it is.

i am currently reading Harry Potter the chamber of secrets, and i have two question to ask. my first question is how did the giant snake get in the walls any? the reason the why i asked is, because in the book the snake was some how  sneaking through the wall and some how getting out, and attacking the students. and the second reason is, because “harry I think it is in the walls” that is the part i don’t understand: why or even who would a giant snake get into a  stone wall in the first place. my second question is how did the snake get in the school in the first place. the reason why i asked this question is because i do not fully understood why you would have something like that in the first place. personally I have never heard of anyone who would be crazy enough to keep a gigantic snake as a pet.

Blog #28 – In the Blink of an Eye

One of the first things Michael remembers doing with his dad was the Sunday morning trips to McDonald”s.  It was just Michael and his dad.  They would order three Egg McMuffins and share the third one.  “That may not sound like much.  They were just Egg McMuffins.  But those Sunday-morning breakfasts were the first thing I remember that my dad and I ever shared.”  Michael and his dad shared more than food, they would talk about school, racing and normal everyday things.  Michael felt a real connection with his dad.  He enjoyed that his dad was noticing him and Michael loved the attention.

Blog #27 – In the Blink of an Eye

In the Blink of an Eye is an auto-biography by Michael Waltrip, a NASCAR driver.  Michael was the youngest of five children and grew up in Owensboro, KY.  His older brother, Darrell, was the first to show interest in racing.  Michael grew up at home with is mother, while Darrell and his father were at the races every week.  Back then, they did not show many races on the television.  The only way Michael could follow what Darrell was doing, was to listen to the radio.  The only problem with that was, they lived in the county and had to drive for miles to pick up a signal and would listen to the races in the car with his mother.  “Can you imagine?  Driving an hour so we could listen to a race on the radio?  With your mom?  Things have changed quite dramatically since then”.

Legos

June4

this week I read an article on legos and therefore i am going to make a prediction. I predict that legos are going to become even more popular over the years because adults are starting to play with them. Another reason I say this is because you can everything with legos like building a boat, airplane and a house. Now a days kids like to get creative and that’s a big reason why they legos are being used. That’s why I think that legos are going to become popular.

Flipped

June4

I am reading the book flipped. This book really stands out to me.Its love at first sight.Since they wer little in the secnd grade juli always knew it was something about him.Every day, Bryce watches Juli climb the  tree at the bus stop, which Juli is very attached to. Ever since Juli retrieved a kite at the uppermost branches, she has loved the view. She constantly asks Bryce to come join her in the tree, as well as yelling out how many blocks away the bus is. Bryce, being unbelievably shy and annoyed by all the attention.I predict that they will get together when they get older.
