My Walden Plan

December13

I have been wasting my time using computer for lots of hours. I planned to stop using computer after 10:00 PM. Once I start using computer, I cannot stop unless someone timed the computer every day. So I will stop using when I cannot login no more. When I use the computer a lot, I will not get that much sleep. That means it is bad for my brain because my brain cells will be damaged.

Trying to break this habit will be difficult for me. The reason I say this is because I might not have finished looking for what I want to or sometimes I cannot stop using computer because I’ll think I have more time left and I’ll just keep using it.

This experiment will help me to be active when I go to school. If I am active, I will do everything the teacher wants me to do. Then, I will get good grades and become the person I want to be. I hope this experiment will help me live the life I want. Thoreau said “I wished to live deliberately…” (Thoreau 383). I was inspired when I read this because I want to live purposefully.

My rut is playing video games; I play them way too much. It makes my life less simple because it takes away from things that are important such as homework. The most difficult part about giving up my video games is the fact that I will not be able to play them for a whole week. It will help me understand that there is more to life than just sitting around at a television and playing my video games. This experiment will also help me improve my social life, by getting out and talking to people besides the people at school. I can do a whole lot with my time that I use to play my video games. What I hope to learn from this is that I can learn to make my life simple, and also achieve a lot with this simple but achievable life style.  What inspired me to take up this challenge or better known as my rut is this wonderful quote from Emerson “every natural action is graceful, every heroic act is descent” (Emerson) the reason why I choose this is because the quote is really good

The habit that I have is cursing a lot to myself. I curse a lot when I am frustrated, mad, or annoyed by something or someone. The habit of cursing makes my life more wasteful because it gives off a bad impression of me to other people and I don’t want that. What will be difficult about trying to break my habit is when I get frustrated with my work I curse to myself. As it says in the story “ the mom believed there was a problem with her kids”( I took my kids offline, 1). I believe I can hold off cursing just for a week, but I need to try and break that habit for good so it doesn’t become a deliberate habit.

In my time that I spend cursing when I am frustrated with my school work. I could use that frustration to try and get some more work done. As it says in the Emerson story “What I must do is all that concerns me, not what people think of me ”(Emerson, 365). What that quote means to me is I just need to do what helps me and not try to worry what others think or how they feel about me. I think doing this rut will better my life and frustration for one whole week. I plan and hope that I can continue you this rut all the time when I get frustrated with my school work.

The Ruts of my Conformity

December11

By definition, all ruts hold us back in some way. Yet, in looking at the ruts of my life, I found myself making a nearly innumerable list. Why then, knowing these ruts keep me from living life in the way I have imagined, do I continue to pursue them, even add to them? The answer, I suppose, is that I fall into the grooves that are easiest, most readily available. Nothing is easier than falling into my enveloping leather sofa, flipping on the television, and watching hours of my life disappear to meaningless mind-numbing faux reality.

My rut is television.

For one week I will give up this rut and see what happens. I am excited by this difference, this chance to get off the “dusty highway” of my normal day and live differently (Emerson). By no means will this week be a breeze; so much of my post-work routine is dominated by cable programming. This will mean I take a significant departure from what is habit and find some new way to spend my time. I could grade, or exercise, or read, or spend time talking to my friends who live far away. Compounding the difficulty I anticipate having is the fact that I do not live on an island all-alone with only what pleased me to concern myself. I live with my husband, and it is playoff season for Fantasy Football. In the Dietz household this means our televisions are blaring ESPN of the NFL Network constantly. I will either have to convince my husband to see the benefits of a week inspired by Transcendentalist ideals, or find somewhere to hide out while he parks it in from of the television (the former is the more likely of the two seeing as if my husband had to choose between me or Fantasy Football, it would be a tough call). 🙂

I will report back in two days on the status of my attempt to rid myself from the habits of daily life. Wish me luck!

nights there and then they drove a 1000 miles to get to Maryland with is 197 miles away from paradise, Ohio where

there journey began. When they get there they sleep then before six opens her eyes she knows that it is going to be a long

day. Then she feels a little pain because he is missing henri. John reads the letter that Henri left him. Six doesnt get any sleep

because the chest is finally in her possesion and she is anxious too try too talk to Adelina about opening the chest.

Question

In my book Bone I have several questions. My first question is why the Author didn’t explain why Phone Bone and his three cousins were kicked out of their home town. The reason why I asked this question is because it would help the readers like me to understand the whole story if there is complete information. And I would also like to know what happened. And also the book is really interesting to read. My second question is why did Phone Bone cousin made the whole town made. The Author never explained why but there must be a reason why the town would go out of its way to hunt down and chase the bone cousins out of town. People don’t just exile people from their homes, there has to be a reason why it happened

Based on the story of Mockingjay, I agree with District 13 even though they are poor and try to defeat the Capitol. The reason I say this is because the Capitol is weak. And also they are attacking the hospitals in District 13. “A low-flying V-shaped formation of Capitol hoverplanes appears above us, and the bombs begin to fall”. And District 13 needs to work hard. They have to never give up.

Based on what I read about LeBron James being able to win his first ring, I predict that he will win multiple rings in the near future.  LeBron James is one of the most love hated athletes in all of sports. In his first 8 years of his career, it’s been a rollercoaster ride for LeBron trying to win a championship ring. But when he finally won it he said “ Its about damn time.” Now that LeBron got all of that pressure off of him to win a ring, he can go out and play free and be himself to win more and more titles.

The child called it blog 10 or 9

December10

I am still reading “The child called it” this book is very heartbreaking.I dont understand why someone would treat their own child like that,or anybody. The mother is still treating him bad and as he gets older the pain gets worst. The only time he gets to eat is when hes at school. He mother lets him eat sometimes only when shes in a good mood.I predict that he will over come all of this one day and he will find somewhere better to live.
