Ray meet A good friend of judge Atlee Thurber Foreman. Foreman was driving a dodge pickup “in the same doge pick up his been driving since ray was in college “. Ray is in disbelief that Thurber is attending his fathers funeral.  Judge Atlee, and foreman haven’t seen each other since college. Thurber is known to have seen countless of dead bodies, because he works at the funeral home. Why is Thurber attending judge Atlees funeral when he hasn’t bothered to speak to him in years?

The Summons

January28

Ray and Harry Rex are still searching for clues on the judges death. Ray, and Harry found a stack of cash that the judge supposedly made from gambling. Ray, and harry are clueless on what to do with the money. Ray decided not to tell his brother about the money he found. Ray knows that foster is a drunken, and he will waste all of the money. I predict that ray would do something good with the money in memory of his father.

Prediction

T.G.I.F #4

The book i am currently reading is The Alchemist written by Paulo Coelho. It is based on boy-a shepherd Santiago who was traveling from Spain his homeland to Egypt in search of a treasure, which he says was buried deep down in the pyramids. On his quest he meets up with a Gypsy woman, an alchemist, and a man who claims to be a king. He says also “And, when you want something, all the universe” will “conspires in helping you to achieve it.” They all say that they are directing and showing him the path to his quest even when nobody knows that such a quest exists. I predict that during this quest he will not only find what he looks for but also he will discover the treasure inside him.

Unwholly

January28

I have started to read Unwholly, the sequel to Unwind. So far in Unwholly I am looking at the story through Starkeys perspective, a boy who was storked and is another AWOL Unwind. When Juvey-cops are taking Starkey from his home he has a chance to talk to his parents. The last thing he says to his parents as the juvey cops take him out the door is about his father’s affair with his mom’s friend. He couldn’t “enjoy his bitter little victory” (Shusterman) because at that moment he realizes that this secret could of been used as a bargaining chip with his dad. I have moments in my life that I realize I could of done something differently but it is also to late. Like once when i had walked home I realized that if I had taken the other way it would of been quicker, but it was already too late, I had walked far enough that it would just take longer to turn around and take the other way.

Sleepover at Sandy’s House

January28

Sandy has invited Bliss to sleep over her house and Bliss doesn’t really want to. Bliss decides to sleep over her house anyway because Sandy is basically begging her to go. When Bliss stepped into Sandy’s house she realized she didn’t want to be there “The moment I step into Sandy’s house, I want to turn and leave” (Biss 288). I can connect to this because when I was younger my friend wanted me to sleep over her house and I didn’t really want to. I tried making up excuses so that I couldn’t go but she never really took no for an answer. I would end up going to her sleepovers and I actually had a good time.

The reading strategy that i am going to use is evaluation. At this point in the book, The two tributes for District 12 has already been chosen, and they are now on their way to the “Big City”. Now they are own the train and about to meet, Haymitch. When they finally meet him he is really drunk with another drink in his hand. At this point, I thought that he did not have any hope for those to. The way he was acting was clearly petraying that he had no hope in them. But Peeta got fed up with the fact that Haymitch was suppose to be helping them, and knocked the dsrink out of his hand. So Haymitch got upset and punched Peeta. Then that is when Katniss stuck a knife in the table out of anger. you can tell how angry she was when she yelled “Stop!, that is enough!”.

The reading strategy that I am going to use is conenction. I can connect to Katniss when she stepped in to take the place of her little sister as one of the tributes for their District. I can connect to Katniss because I have been in situations where I would rather put my self in the bad situation than someone that I love. that amount of sacrifice takes a lot of courage. Although Katniss was scared of going to teh Hunger Games, she loved her little sister way to much to allow her to go. You can tell the love that Katniss has for Prim is outstanding because the way she yells out “I volunteer as tribute!”

The reading strategy that i am going to use is connection. I can connect to Katniss’ sisteer Prim when she got selected as the tribute for the hunger games. I can connect with her because I got selected out of a large group of people before. But definately not under the same circumstances. I can tell that she was shocked and very afraid because she got chosen as the tribute. And when i got selcted out of a large group i was also shocked because i honestly did not think that W was going to be chosen. I can tell that they were trying to scare the kids of the districts by saying “If you lift a finger, we will destroy every last one of you.” Then that really scared Prim, and thats when Katniss had to step in.

the reading strategy that I am going to use is evaluation. I can tell that Katniss Everdeen is a very stressed out and scared teenager. She is very scared because she knows that the older that she gets, then the more often her name would be put in the tyibute for the hunger games. Katniss knows that her mother and her younger sister prim rely on her, since their father died years ago. So she has a lot on her plate, although she is just a teenager. Since they live in District 12, one of the poorest districts, it makes it even harder for Katniss to take care of the family. you can tell that they struggle to get food when Katniss said “Chickens are too expensive, but I could make do with a wild turkey”. this line shows how pooe they are, and the struggles that they have.

The Summons

January28

Ray met up with an old friend of his father Harry Rex. Ray and Harry go to the judges estate to go through his papers to see how much work he has left. While at his house Harry tells Ray that he used to gamble with the judge.  Harry tells ray that his father was a pretty good player, and made a lot of money. Ray assumes that most of his inheritance must have came from him gambling.
