Game of Thrones

June5

One day in the North, Ned Stark discovers 6 baby dire wolf pups.  He believes this to be a good sign seeing that he has 6 children, what he ignores is that the mother direwolf had been killed by a deer.  The sigil of the king’s house is a stag, and the Stark’s sigil is a dire wolf.  I believe that this is a sign that the king is going to betray the Starks and have them killed.  Later on we are shown two new characters: Tyrion Lannister, the king’s dwarf brother-in-law; and John Snow, Ned Stark’s illegitimate son, who does not share his family name because his “only family is the snow” (Martin.)  Even though Catelyn, Ned’s wife, hates John, almost all the rest of the family loves him and treats him like family.  Regardless, John Snow decides to join the Night’s Watch, an army made up of “criminals, bastards, and outcasts;” where those who join essentially are disowned from their families, must never marry, and must serve for life, as well as giving them clemency for all past crimes, which is why many criminals and outcasts join.

“Sheisty” Kayla Period:6

June5

The reading strategy I am going to use is prediction. I’m predict that Keisha is going to regret cheating weeks before she gets married. The reason I say this is because Keisha had a batchlorette party with a couple of closets friends and of course at parties like these male strippers were there. Before the strippers came everybody was having fun and listening to old school songs trying to remember how to dances that went along with it. Finally the strippers came and everybody was REALLY happy, there was three strippers. When Keisha saw the three male strippers she said they were “the finest shades of chocolate men I had ever seen in my life”. Their names were Mr. Goodnight, Chocolate Ty, and Damager. Out of all three of the strippers Keisha liked the Damager, they had some type of connection. While the others were distracted by the other two males. Damager and Keisha went into the other connecting hotel room and they had sex. The next day Keisha felt so bad she ran home and took a shower to wash off all the guilt she felt.

Stung

June5

The book i am currently reading is titled Stung. It is a book written by Bethany Wiggins. It is all centered around a girl Fiona. The stung has no cure for it at all. She wakes up one morning and find out that everything is abandoned and broken and that her world is being torn apart. The entire neighborhood lays barren and dead. And also stranger is the tattoo she discovers on her right hand-a black oval with five marks on either sides of it. She does not remember getting it or how she got it but all she knows is that she got it. All those bearing the tattoos have turned into mindless violent beasts that keep on roaming the streets and underground sewers  surviving on the other types of people. The people without the mark have formed a fortress around themselves and their lives devoted to rebuilding a society and killing all those who bear the mark. I  predict that she is going to figure out all the impact behind the mark and then find a way to connect herself with the people on the other side of the wall.

Skylark

June5

I have picked up Skylark once again. Lark at the moment is still fleeing from the institution. The Institution had been planning to turn her into a power source, a machine that would have had wires connected all around her body. Fortunately she escaped and left the city. She is rationing whatever food she has and is utterly worn out. Lark is in constant fear that the machines that the institution have let out to track her will find her, which one night, one did. Lark was able to crush the machine but it started rebuilding itself the only reason she did not kill it was because it made bird noises out of nowhere. This is what Lark was searching for, birds, so she stopped; supposedly birds would lead her to people that could help her. The little machine informed her that it could lead her to the birds. Lark decided to trust it because she had the part of the machine pixie that helps it get back to the institution. Lark believes that the machine is nothing but a machine. I believe this machine has feelings by what Meagan Spooner writes on page 154,”“Shadow men,” repeated the pixie. For the briefest second, I imagined I had detected amusement in its voice. Which was impossible, of course.” My prediction is that this machine pixie is going to get fond of her or it is going to turn her in the moment it gets its little mechanic hands on the navigation piece, the one that takes it to the institution.

A Game of Thrones

Lord Eddard Stark travels south to Kings Landing, the capitol of Westeros, with King Robert Baratheon, who visited Winterfell to hear the news of the White Walkers.  The king wants Ned to become the new Hand of the King. Ned’s youngest son Bran is in a coma, after he was pushed out the window of a tower while discovering Queen Cersei committing incest with her brother Jamie Lannister.  Ned’s wife, Catelyn, becomes suspicious of Queen Cersei, believing that her husband is in danger and is curious of the suspicions circumstances surrounding the death of the previous hand.  She decides to travel to Kings Landing in secret, leaving their oldest son, Rob Stark to be lord of Winterfell.  As a sign of good will, Ned gives his eleven year old daughter, Sansa, to be married to the king’s heir, Robert’s twelve year old son, Prince Joffrey.  Ned begins his duties as King’s Hand, which includes governing Westeros.  I believe that the King is not plotting to kill Ned, but his wife, Cersei, is going to remain loyal to her family, the Lannisters, and is going to try to over throw the Baratheons and hand the position of king to her powerful father, Tywin Lannister.

A Game of Thrones

June4

A Game of Thrones is the first volume of the series A Song of Ice and Fire, written by George R. R. Martin.  The book is a fantasy novel set in the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos.  The story contains a very wide variety of characters, all portrayed from their point of view. The continents are split into families that control their own section.  The Nights Watch in the north guards a massive wall built to keep the violent tribe, called the Wildlings, out; as well as keeping legendary creatures known as the white walkers, who have not been seen since the wall was built thousands of years ago.  Directly below is the land of Winterfell, ruled by House Stark; Eddard “Ned” Stark, lord of Winterfell and Warden of the North must execute a deserter from the Night’s Watch.  When asking him for his last words, the deserter explains that he saw the White Walkers coming from the north, he ran after they killed his entire troop.  The chapter ends with Ned’s mother explaining that “fear is for the winter, my little lord, when the snows fall a hundred feet deep and the ice wind comes howling out of the north. Fear is for the long night, when the sun hides its face for years at a time, and little children are born and live and die all in darkness while the direwolves grow gaunt and hungry, and the white walkers move through the woods” (Martin.)  The whole story reminds me of the feudalism in Europe during the Middle ages; rich families fighting for power while ignoring the plague and famine killing all the people they rule.

Looking for Alaska

June4

Towards the middle of Looking for Alaska, Pudge and his friends are faced with a tragedy that continues for the rest of the book.  The morning after Alaska suddenly left the school in the middle of the night, drunk and crying, the Dean of Students called in an emergency assembly.  The tragic news that Alaska had gotten in a wreck and died brought the school to a halt.  Pudge explains that “when adults say, “Teenagers think they are invincible” with that sly, stupid smile on their faces, they don’t know how right they are. We need never be hopeless, because we can never be irreparably broken. We think that we are invincible because we are. We cannot be born, and we cannot die. Like all energy, we can only change shapes and sizes and manifestations. They forget that when they get old. They get scared of losing and failing. But that part of us greater than the sum of our parts cannot begin and cannot end, and so it cannot fail” (Green.)  This reminds me of the idea that ideas and influences last far longer than the people who make them.

Chapter 5

June4

The reading strategy that I am going to use is prediction. At this point in the story, Junior obviously get suspended for throwing ghe book at Mr. P. A few days into his suspension, Mr. p came to Junior’s house to speak to him. He sat on the porch and spoke to Junior about many things. He talked about how he used to teach Juniors sister Mary when she was younger. He said that she was the smartest girl that he ever teached. Even smarter than Junior himself. Junior was shocked and laughed. Mr. P also gave Junior some major advice. He told Junior that he has a lot of potential. Mr. P says “He has to leave the reservation in order to find hope.” [Alexie pg.47]

Chapter 4

June4

The reading strategy that i am going to use is evaluation, At this point in the story, it is Juniors first day in gemooetry, and he was super excited. He said that “right angles make him feel sorta hormonal.” [Alexie pg.33] Thats weird. From that situation, i can tell taht Junior is a nerd. He probably does not have a lot of friends, because he loves school work. He also speaks about his sister Mary. She is a beautiful girl that didn’t get a job or go to college after high school. Sad. When he opened his “new” gemoetry book, it read “THIS BOOK BELONGS TO AGNES ADAMS.” That is his Mother! this books are 30 years old. So he got very upset and decided to beam the ball at the teache Mr. P.

The Killables!!!

June4

The book i am currently reading is titled The Killables. It is a book written by Gemma Malley. This book is all about a dirty town that needed cleaning and indeed cleaning is what it got. Everyone believes that physical we are not the same and that we are also different inside also. You just had to know how to tell the differences. In the town Evil had been totally eradicated and the City has been established just like a new-born. People and citizens are only granted access when they have the evil aspect of themselves eradicated or removed. “Imagination shows an ability to lie, to pretend the world is different than it is.” ― Gemma Malley, The Killables

The system only knows and measure how good they are and the gratitude they show. If there is any sign of evil or bad they are labelled K. People do not know what that K means but all they know is that as the disappear the do it for good without returning back. I predict that the people are going to find out where all the killables are at and then maybe go against the system.
