Fire from the Rock is a bok about a girl getting selected to go to a newly integrated school. Fire from the Rock reminds me of the Ruby Bridges story in some ways. Ruby Bridges was a little girl who was chosen to go to an integrated school as well.  The connection I made to Ruby Bridges and Fire from the Rock is that the parents were deeply concerned and worried for their child, Sylvia’s mother thought it was “a wonderful honor and oppurtunity” but was worried that it was very dangerous. In the end, the parents of Sylvia and Ruby Bridges changed and thought that it would be a good idea because they thought their children could change the world.

Tiarra Andrews-Owens- Connection

The strategy I am going to use is prediction. I predict that Toi is going to get back with Quamir. I said that because Toi said “and I know he gon’ come back beggin’ me… like he always does.” I honestly think that Toi would eventually get back with Quamir. I also predict that Toi is going to find some other boyfriend to make Quamir jealous.

Blog Post 2: The book I’m reading is called “If I was your girl”. This book is about a girl name Toi who has a baby by this boy name Quamir. The girl catches the boy cheating on her with some other girl. When Toi finds out the boy was she cheating she gets really mad. The reading strategy I am going to use is the question strategy. The question I have is if  Toi is really serious about leaving Quamir? I ask this because in the book she says “I am so done with Quamir”.

I have finished the book, that four day weekend we had let me fit in some extra reading time. I am not sure if the author is going to write a second book but from were the book left off I feel that this is almost certain. I predict that in the third book Anya will find multiple problems with Fats. He is one of her family members who is now incharge of her Daddy’s black market chocolate bussiness. She is planning to open a bussiness that Fat had told her would not work but this was only a discussion. I realized that he might be a danger to her long before but when Fats realized that Anya was going on with the idea anyway Fat threatened her. Anya doesn’t seem to worry she thinks the threat is nothing but a bluff but I do not believe he is bluffing.

I feel a connection between the main character and me in the way of that I cannot bring myself to stab any other human being. That connects me with the main character because at a point in the book, the main character starts to carry a knife after he got jumped. He carried the knife knowing that he would not use it because he is not a big fighter. He gets terrified whenever he is around rival gang members. I also assume that he will not use because of this connection we have.

I’m finally at a place in my life where I find peace. As I stood up at the scaffold with Dimmesdale, I remember him leaning on me for support. I remember him saying “ye, that have loved me!—ye, that have deemed me holy!—behold me here, the one sinner of the world!  At last—at last!—I stand upon the spot where, seven years since, I should have stood, here, with this woman, whose arm, more than the little strength wherewith I have crept hitherward, sustains me at this dreadful moment, from grovelling down upon my face!”…………… (page 200). It was hard for him to talk, so I helped him out. I tore away his ministerial garments, and there it was. On his chest also laid an ‘A’. At the end of it, the crowd recoiled in shock. Chillingworth looked like his soul died. His whole spirit was gone. Dimmesdale was no longer weak in spirit in my eyes. He now had my respect. Everyone could say whatever they wanted, but I waited all these years to finally be relieved of all this pressure. Seeing my daughter kiss her father meant everything to me. I finally got my family back. After going through hell for over about a decade, I’m happy that I made an impact on people’s lives. I am not the strongest person, but I do believe that when you do something wrong, you have to own up to the consequences. Dimmesdale and I are getting older, and my baby Pearl is growing up too. I’m really happy we all have a better relationship. I’m worried that Dimmesdale isn’t recovering at all because he still needs my help around the house and help when we’re out; he is also coughing and sleeping more. I know that our life is just about over, I just hope as Pearl grows up she leads people in the right direction. I want her to know that even though it’s not okay to sin, that when or if you do accidently slip up, you can always ask for forgiveness but never make the same mistake again. . I’ve been looking on the internet for a website that will guide Pearl into the right direction, and a website that will show her that steps to be a good Christian. Katniss eventually found a water source. She drank until she had to stop and take a breath. After sleeping, she wakes up to sounds of fire. She slowly goes over to see if anyone is there to kill but no one is there. All of a sudden fireball are flying towards her from no where. She starts running away and gets hit with a couple of them on her leg. She runs back towards the pool of water and sticks her burning leg in it. All of a sudden she hears footsteps running towards her and realizes it is the big alliance with Peeta in it.”And they find me, they do. It’s lucky I’m ready to move on because when i hear the feet, I have less than a minute head start.” Katnis sprints away and up into a tree. All of the tributes are trying to climb the tree to get to her but she is too high up for anyone to reach. I understand this better because it makes me think of celebrities running from paparazzi. Katniss is the celebrity and the other tributes are the paparazzi trying to catch her. When Katniss goes into the tree this is like the celebrity finding a hiding spot so the paparazzi cannot find her.

Laura Lee McHugh -Connection

In the arena, there is no food or drinks given to you. You must hunt and search for everything. Katnis is parched and starving. She does not know what to do. The capitol can send them gifts like food, water and clothing. So she asks for water but it never comes. She thinks so herself why there is not water in front of her. She keeps looking and thinks of clues to where a lake or river would be. A lot of different ideas come into her mind like rivers flow down hill so go down the valley.”It runs downhill, so, in fact, continuing down into this valley isn’t a bad thing” Also trying to follow animals tacks down the valley to the water source. I predict that she will eventually find water and not die. Or that Haymitch or the capitol with eventually send her water as a gift.

Laura Lee McHugh -Prediction

The first couples minutes of the game, a lot of people were already killed. Katnis was lucky and dodged a couple of knives to survive. At night, the capitol shows the dead tributes to the people in the games to know who is dead. Katnis is parched and cannot find any water sources. She opens her backpack and find food, a sleeping bag, and a wire. She sets up her sleeping bag high in a tree so she is not easily seen. After a while, she dozes off but is woke up by loud cracks. Her heart is pounding think people are coming to kill her. She looks over and sees a fire burning. All of a sudden she hears loud, fast foot steps and then a scream. The little girl was dead. The next thing she hears is a group of people walking towards her. There is a “leader” of the group. She recognizes the voice, it Peeta.”I almost fall out of the tree. The voice belongs to Peeta.” (160) I predict Peeta made an alliance with all those people but then he is going to stab them in the back, literally.

I was finally able to tell Dimmesdale the truth. I told him about Chillingworth’s true identity. Dimmesdale was angry when I told him and he blamed me for his suffering. He was finally able to forgive me when he realized how evil Chillingworth was. We feared that Chillingworth will do something against us so we have decided to get onto a ship to Europe where we will live as a family. Dimmesdale was excited about leaving and being able to live together and I final took off the scarlet letter that was on my chest. It makes me very happy to know that Dimmesdale and Pearl will be able to treat each other like father and daughter. I called Pearl to come with Dimmesdale and I and she seemed a little upset because the A was not on my chest. Pearl was also being very indifferent with Dimmesdale. Dimmesdale gave Pearl a kiss on her forehead and Pearl ran off to wash off the kiss. I was excited to start fresh and finally be able to live with my daughter and the man that I love, but that all changed when I spoke to one of the sailors. He told me that Chillingworth would be joinng us on our passage because the ship needs a doctor. The whole town is excited about Election Day and hearing Dimmesdale’s sermon. I stood on the scaffold to listen to his sermon and I noticed that everyone was staring at me. Dimmesdale noticed Pearl and I on the scaffold on joined us. He then began to confess his sin to everyone “ye, that loved me!-ye, that have deemed me holy!- behold me here, the one sinner of the world! At last-at last!- I stand upon the spot where, seven years since, I should have stood, here, with this woman, whose arm, more than the little strength wherewith I have crept hitherward, sustains me at this dreadful moment, from groveling down upon my face! Lo, the scarlet letter which Hester waers! Ye have all shuddered at it! Wherever her walk hath been” (199-200). Dimmesdale even ripped his shirt off and revealed to everyone the mark that he made on himself. Pearl finally gave him the kiss that he had been waiting for. Dimmesdale and I excnaged some words, he said farewell and he passed away.
