It’s Roger here! So I have been walking around the town hearing some strange rumors. They were that Hester and Dimmesdale were going to leave Boston. I do not think so! They thought they could get away from me so easily but that is not possible. I need to figure out what boat they are going to go on so I can try and get a spot. How am I going to figure out which boat though? Well Hester does help out a captain when she helps out the community. I can go ask him right now if she is on that boat. Hooray! I found the right boat! Hester is going to be so mad when she sees me waiting for her on the boat. I wonder why they are trying to leave Boston. Maybe for Dimmesdale so he could get healthier. I do no know! Oh I almost forgot! Today is election day! The parade is happening right now! Ew, there is Dimmesdale giving his sermon. Except his sermon is absolutely amazing. Wait what is this? Dimmesdale is stumbling towards Hester and Pearl? Gosh, he is really weak because of his sickness.”But he fought back the bodily weakness-and,still more, the faintness of heart-that was striving for the mastery with him”(200) I did a good job! What is about to happen? Is the truth between them going to come out so the whole town knows? He falls to the ground and dies. I am in shock that he died right then and there. I better get out of here or else people are going to blame me for his death because I did not successfully save him.

I learned that Hester and Dimmesdale were attempting to leave on a ship.  I’ll never let them out of my grasp no matter the cost. I’ll follow them to end of the world if I have to. I refuse to leave this life without exacting my revenge. The fact they thought they could escape me so easily was almost insulting. I shifted through town finding all the information I could on ships leaving in the coming days. I finally found the ship I was looking for after hours of searching. I convinced the naïve ship captain to allow me to travel with them. After a little persuasion the fool agreed. After I was walking around in a crowd and saw a familiar face. It was Hester; she looked like the cat that ate the canary. I smirked at her to let her know that I knew. All the color left her face and she was completely terrified, just how I wanted it. The next day was election day and very festive. The town was a little bit more lively than usual. I knew Dimmesdale would be giving a sermon so I went to see what he had to say. Even I was taken aback by the clarity and passion of his message. By far this was the greatest sermon I have ever heard. He earned a little bit of my respect, but again A LITTLE. After the sermon Dimmesdale was stumbling around during the parade. He looked terrible and very sick. I was shocked when Dimmesdale approached Hester and Pearl at the Scaffold! I tried to stop him, but there in front of the entire town Dimmesdale confessed his sin! He told that he was Pearls father and committed adultery with Hester. He soon died, which is what I wanted but It somehow felt empty. I had no hand in it, he confessed by himself I didn’t have that A HA! moment. After he died I had nothing to live for and began to feel weak. There is no doubt I will die soon too. With this, I bid you bloggers farewell.

I have finally confessed my sin after seven years I was given the strength to confess in front of the entire townspeople.  After meeting in the forest with Hester, I returned back to Chillingworth and my house to tell him I was no longer in need of his medication, when I told him that he seemed a little skeptical but didn’t ask me anything.  I then sat down to rewrite my sermon that I was to present on Election Day.  The day of the elections I felt healthier and more energetic than before although I could feel slight tension from Hester because I did not really acknowledge her before I read my sermon and Pearl could not even recognize me at first.  Also I know mistress Hibbins was trying to brain wash Hester, that women thinks I am the Devil, which I am not!  She is the one that is known around town for being a witch.  While I recited my sermon I saw Hester and Pearl standing at the foot of the scaffold and I knew it was time to confess my sin so I held both of their hands at the top and said:

“ye, that have loved me!—ye, that have deemed me holy!—behold me here, the one sinner of the world!  At last—at last!—I stand upon the spot where, seven years since, I should have stood, here” (200)

And then I showed the townspeople the scarlet letter that rested upon my chest.  After that Pearl gave me the kiss that she has been holding out to give me for a while now.  Hester had asked me if we were going to spend our after lives together but I told her only God could decide that.  Now as you are reading this I am dead, God has taken me away and sent me some place else but at least I know that I am dead and relieved of my sin.

It was a great day as I was playing in the forest gather pearls and diamonds and rubies in the wood and I was running all around with wild flowers in my hair. Then all of a sudden as I had reached the margin of the brook and on the other side I saw mother talking to a man where they sat together on the mossy tree-trunk. My mom then calls for me and says that I must be friends with person who is standing next to her Here is a friend of mine, who must be thy friend also.  Thou wilt have twice as much love henceforward as thy mother alone could give thee!  Leap across the brook and come to us.  Thou canst leap like a young deer!” (Chapter 19) I didn’t focus as to the order my mom gave me to come but I focused on the relation as to they might have with one another. I found myself angry when for all my life I have seen the letter A on my mother’s bosom and all of a sudden why does she choose to not where it now! Hoping that she would get the hint, I pointed with my forefinger towards her bosom not saying anything. I might have over done it with my “suddenly burst into a fit of passion, gesticulating violently, and throwing her small figure into the most extravagant contortions,” but it worked. My mom finally noticed or at least that man next to her whispered something to her because she finally got that she was to put the letter A back on her bosom. When she told me that it was by my side of the brooks I told her that she had to “Come thou and take it up,” that might have been a little rude of me but that should teach my mother to not change.

Ugh mother won’t answer any of my important questions that I want an answer to. I could tell that it got her attention and so I asked “What does the letter mean, mother?  and why dost thou wear it? and why does the minister keep his hand over his heart?”(Chapter 15) I wish my mom would just answer the question because I know she is hiding something from me even if she says “What questions are these?  There are many things in this world that a child must not ask about.  What know I of the minister’s heart?  And as for the scarlet letter, I wear it for the sake of its gold thread.” (Chapter 15) I know my mother is not telling me the whole story and I can tell that she knows that I know something, so why won’t she just tell me already! I only have one solution left and that’s to annoy her as much as I can until she tells me. I figured if I constantly keep asking her what the scarlet letter means she would get fed up and have to tell me eventually. My plan worked until my mom said “Do not tease me; else I shall put thee into the dark closet!” (Chapter 15) I guess I will have to find out the hard way, I will just keep observing what’s going on because I know the person who keeps placing his hand on his chest has to do something with the letter A.

So I heard that Hester and Pearl and Dimmesdale were going try to pull a fast one, and get on a boat and leave for Europe. If they think that I am going to let that happen, then they really must not know who I am! So as soon as I figure out exactly what boat they are getting on, I am going to talk to that captain and save myself a seat on that boat. They will never be ever to leave me, and to make sure of that, I will follow their every footstep.
So I asked a couple people around town about a boat that was going to Europe in the next couple of days, and I finally found the boat I was looking for. So I made sure that I talked to the captain of the ship, and eventually talked him in to allowing me to ride with them. So when I finished talking to the captain, I looked deep into a crowd of people and I saw Hester standing there looking super scared. So I gave her a little smirk, just for fun, to scare her a little.
So the next day, since it was Election Day, it was a big parade and what not. Then I saw that guy Dimmesdale giving his sermon, and even though I do not like him, it was an amazing sermon. So after his sermon, I saw Dimmesdale stumbling during the parade, and I was already aware of his sickness. Then I could not believe what I saw next, I saw Dimmesdale approach Hester and Pearl in front of the scaffold! I did not like what I was seeing so I had to step in. so I finally killed Dimmesdale! Today was a holiday in town. It was time for the new governor to be selected. This was the first time that the whole town has gathered since my public ridicule. Dimmesdale and my plans to go to Europe have been slightly ruined since Chillingworth is now joining us on the passage. It did not help my mood much that Chillingworth was smirking at me across the marketplace. I always wondered how Chillingworth even knew that we were going aboard the ship to Europe.

Before I could even think about what Chillingworth accompanying us on the ship would mean the procession began. The music was loud and people were filled with happiness and excitement. I spotted Dimmesdale through the crowd a since of dreariness came over me. I could not believe that this was the same man that I had known all those years ago. Again, my thoughts were interrupted as Mistress Hibbins came over to Pearl and me. She began to say that the “mark” of the minister will be revealed like mine was all those years ago will be revealed. It never occurred to me at the time that what she was saying would actually be true. Once the Mistress left I began to listen to the sermon that Dimmesdale was giving. Another development happened because Pearl gave me a message from Chillingworth that he will make arrangements to bring Dimmesdale on board the ship. I thought to myself, when will Chillingworth ever give up making our lives so horrible?!?

The sermon had ended and we were all heading to the town hall when something that I never thought would happen did, Dimmesdale pulls Pearl and me onto the scaffold with him. I could not believe this was he really going to reveal the truth?  “With a convulsive motion, he tore away the ministerial band from before his breast.  It was revealed!”(page 200) Dimmesdale finally revealed the whole truth before the town! My little Pearl finally knew who her father was and she accepted him with a kiss. But in the instance of all the truth coming out my Dimmesdale died. After his death I was completely heart broken. After the death of Dimmesdale many people of the town could not believe it. About a year or so Chillingworth also died. My little Pearl and I left town for many years.  But I came back and resumed my charity work for the town and I still lived in my cottage alone. My Scarlet letter remained on my breast until my dying day.

Pearl, Dimmesdale, and me standing on the scaffold before he died.

Hello my name is Roger Chillingworth. I was born in England and got married there too. I took my wife Hester Prynne to Boston alone, then i left and went back to England. Two years later i came back and i surprisingly saw Hester in a scaffold in front of every person in the colony. I over heard from the townspeople that she has committed adultery “This woman has brought shame upon us
all, and ought to die”(44). When i saw her i was surprised because she had a baby in her hands also i put my finger in front of my lips so she wouldn’t tell anyone who i was. But suddenly i was recognized by the townspeople and they asked me who was i?. I told them that i just got here from England and that i was a doctor. I also told them i was captured by the natives which have taught me their ways of curing someone. When i went to see  Hester She wasn’t in the scaffold anymore she was in prison. When i went to the prison i saw in the corner of the cell with the baby. I was asking her to tell me who was the father of that baby was, but she wouldn’t tell me. Next week i went back to visit her, and yet she wouldn’t tell me who the father was. The next day i went to visit her but i brought some medicine for the baby because she looked sick, but Hester didn’t let me give her it. I was very furious with her.

Hester and Dimmesdale

Gosh this secret that I am keeping is making me even sicker. I can hardly stand. I am paler than I ever was in life. I am literally a shell of a human. I feel bad though because Hester dealt with her sin publicly and I just kept it a secret. It is terrible I should admit that I committed a sin too. It takes two to tango and it also takes two to commit a sin. I need to confess this secret now before I die.

Hester wants to meet me in the forest to talk to me. “Hester!  Hester Prynne!”, said he; “is it thou?  Art thou in life?”“Even so.” she answered.  “In such life as has been mine these seven years past!…” (150) I wonder what she wants to talk about. I wonder if she is going to bring Pearl along too. Does she want to talk about what happened seven years ago? I haven’t talked to her in a very long time. When I see her I get so happy, I cannot believe she is still alive after all these years. Later on we finally meet up with in the woods, Pearl is also there too. When she calls my name I cannot believe it is actually her. We talk about the last seven years and how it’s been killing me not to say anything. When I say killing me I literally me it’s killing me.

Hester says she came to warn me about something. I wonder what she has come to warn me about. Hester says that Chillingworth is her husband. When Hester said that my heart stopped, I was actually surprised. Me and Hester to run away after I speak my sermon at the Election Day. Correction it is actually Me, Hester, and Pearl that is going to run away. We are going to Europe so we can actually be family and start over.
