Bossypants is the auto biography about tina fay. Tina starts of by leting us now what her child hood was like.  She grew up in the 70s, and had one older brother “my brother is eight years older than i am”.  In  kindergarten tina was slashed in the face by a stranger in the ally of her house. I predict that tina is going to be known around the nighborhood because of her scar.

Shine

May15

Cat, our main character in Shine, has begun to change. In the beginning of this story Cat keeps her emotions more bottled in. “Oh, there’s Cat, eating a doughnut and keeping to herself like always” (Myracle 23). The reader knows what is going on because the book is written from her perspective, making it possible for the reader to hear her thoughts. Those reading realize that her opinions are strong she just doesn’t let the world hear it. Then she starts changing as she is searching for clues that lead her to the one or ones that hurt Patrick, she starts coming out of the shell that she created for herself. Cat is shy but she is strong, instead of letting what happened to Patrick go as if it didn’t occur she takes action. She is human and has made mistakes, has had things happened to her, and she is not going to let what happened in the past keep her from searching for those who harmed her friend.

Shine

May15

I have started reading another book. It is called Shine by Lauren Myrcale, that does not mean I am abandoning my previouse book. Shine is a story about a boy who was killed. From what was found in the crime scene and is known about him, he was killed because he was gay. This boy’s old best friend, Cat, believes that they did not go in depth with his death’s investigation because of his sexuality; so she decides to investigate. The scene when they find Truman is burned into my mind, “he found Truman slumped on the pavement, bound to the guardrail of the fuel dispenser. The gasoline nozzle protruded from his mouth, held in place with duct tape. Across the teen’s bare chest, scrawled in blood, were the words Suck this, faggot” (Myracle 1).

I am currently reading Jason and Kyra by Dana Davidson. In my last blog post I predicted that Lisa, Jason’s ex-girlfriend was going to hurt Kyra. Lisa actually did hurt Kyra emotionally by giving Jason a final kiss on-the-cheek right in front of her. That led Kyra to have some doubts about their relationship, but Jason proved that wrong when he gave Kyra a kiss in front of Lisa.  After that, Kyra and Jason’s relationship went on well. I am now at the point in the book where they are at a Ski-Lodge and Kyra felt “wonderful to spend an entire day alone with Jason” (Davidson 192). Since some other students from their High School are going up there, I predict that Lisa is going to be there and try to ruin their happiness.

Looking for Alaska

May15

In the book Looking for Alaska, after a successful prank, the group decided to celebrate with a night of drinking.  Alaska left the room to make a call to her boyfriend, suddenly about 30 minutes later she burst into the room crying saying that she needed to leave campus right away.  She did not want anyone to come with her  Alaska had seemed to be a very unhappy person at times; Miles said that “something invisible snapped insider her, and that which had come together commenced to fall apart” (Green.)  From this we can infer that something bad is about to happen, it is saying that when whatever it was that snapped inside of her, is going to lead to her falling apart.

“Mysterious ways” #2 Luis

The reading strategy that i am going to use is visualization. In the story Soul Sisters i was visualizing that these two sisters would not be separated even if their was something wrong with them. In this story these two sisters are very close to each other that they acted like best friends. One day one of the sisters daughter drowned because she did not know how to swim, they went in the ambulance on in the front and the other one with her daughter. The sister in the front asked God that she wished to be by her side, so later when the sister’s daughter got out of the hospital she thanked her sister for being next to her. “The ambulance ride was the worst part. Thank God you were there to hold my hand”

“Mysterious Ways” Luis

The book I am currently reading is called His Mysterious Ways this book has many stories about how people around the world encounter some sort of connection with God. The reading strategy that I am going to use is visualization. During the time I was reading this book I was imagining and visualizing of what the stories were about. This one story called Crossing the Lines, it is about an old lady that asked the Lord for a friendly voice, but a man was working late at night he was send a fax to a client when an error appeared so he called that number and it happened to be the old lady. Then the other night his client called him to thank him for the paper work he sent him, even when the error appeared. “Oh no, my dear, I am glad you called. I hardly get any visitors. In fact, I was just sitting here asking the Lord for a friendly voice.”

The reading strategy I am going to use is visualization. I am using visualization because when Rasheed finally went to jail I can visualize the look on his face. I can see that he was so angry and confused when he was in his cell. He was angry because he was not the one who killed his best friend and his son, so it was no point of him being locked up. He was confused because he did not know how to tell Michelle that he had an older son and a daughter on the way. Little did Rasheed Know that Michelle knows about everything that’s been happening for  a couple of months now. When Michelle was done telling Rasheed how she knew about everything she said “you see how love can make you do some crazy things?” Michelle was the reason why everything happened…She was basically the reason why Rasheed was in jail. Rasheed said “you did all of this because you was jealous over some lil side hoe?”

Skylark

May15

The book that I am currently reading is called Skylark, written by Meagan Spooner. It is about this girl who lives in a world that is powered by magic. This sounds absolutely wonderful until you find out that this “resource” is taken from children and this is when they become adults. Lark was looking forward to this day because she was more than ready to grow up. The bad news is that she turned out to be special; she was able regenerate after her power had been drained. The government used her as the city’s power supply. This was one of the surviving cities after the war, still surviving because of machinery powered by magic. What I find interesting is that this girl had a brother, named Basil, which disappeared. I predict that Lark will find out that Basil was also a source of energy that regenerated. I predict that the disappearance on the expedition was a cover up made by the government. My prediction is based on the fact that while Lark was snooping around she said “I moved slowly down the row of shelves, counting at least a dozen boxes all labeled with my brother’s name” (Spooner 32). This is strange because all of the other kids only had one box, regenerating is probably in Lark’s family blood.

Looking For Alaska

May15

Looking For Alaska, by John Green, opens up with a boy ironically nicknamed Pudge, starting his freshman year at a boarding school in rural Alabama.  He quickly becomes friends with his roommate, The Colonel, and his group of friends.  Among them is a girl named Alaska, Pudge finds her absolutely beautiful in every way, ignoring her self centered personality.  He quickly becomes involved in the groups mischief of smoking cigarettes, planning pranks, and evading the dean of students.  When asked why he decided to go to boarding school, Pudge responds that “It is worth it to leave behind my minor life for grander maybes” (Green.)  He means that is is worth leaving behind a dull, simple life, for the chance at doing something amazing.  This all reminds my of the year and a half I spent at boarding school.  All of the details in the book about the school, and life at the school remind me of the school that I went to.
