ACCOUNT ACCESS

Q: How long will my Google account be active after I leave the school (graduate or transfer)?
A: All accounts of students that have been deemed inactive will be purged on August 1st.

Q: Will I still be able to access my email and Google account during the summer?
A: All students currently enrolled in ACPS will have access to their account during the summer.

FEES AND CHARGES

Q: Will I have to pay to receive a chromebook or charger?
A: There are no upfront fees. However, signing the bailment form acknowledges if the student loses or damages their chromebook or charger they will pay fees associated with repair or replacement.

Q: How much do the chromebook and charger cost?

Q: Who is responsible for the chromebook and charger?
A: The chromebook and charger are issued to the student and they are responsible for it. Students are expected to take care of the device and maintain it in good working order. Students keep the same device year to year.

Q: When do students turn in their chromebooks and chargers?
A: Students will return their chromebooks and chargers at the end of the school year. Typically it will be during the last three weeks of school.

Q: What if during chromebook collection I only turn in my chromebook and not my charger?
A: Students who do not turn in their chromebook and/or charger during the designated collection period will receive a deficiency until those items are returned or paid for.

GAFE

Q: What does GAFE mean?
A: GAFE stands for Google Apps for Education.

Q: What accounts are provided to students?
A: Students in grades 4-12 all receive an ACPS Gmail account along with several GAFE.

Q: What are the specific GAFE that are enabled for students?
A: Students are given access to Mail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Groups, Maps, Photos, Classroom and Forms.

PRIVACY

Q: What privacy policies are setup for elementary and middle students?
A: Students in grades 4-8 are given private accounts that are in a “walled garden”. This means they cannot communicate or share information with anyone outside of the ACPS domain.

WEB FILTERING

Q: Do student chromebooks have web filtering?
A: Yes, all student devices go through our ACPS web content filtering.

Q: Are student chromebooks filtered at home and school?
A: Yes, student devices use our wifi at school and go through our filter. At home their web traffic is routed back through our filter as well.

Q: Are there any differences in what is filtered at home versus at school?
A: At home students have more websites available to them than at school. Ex: social media, video streaming and music streaming

INTERNET ACCESS

Q: What if I don’t have internet at home. Will my chromebook still work?
A: Yes, all chromebooks are able to access Google Drive, Docs, Slides, Sheets, and Forms while in offline mode. Changes will sync when you connect to wifi at school.

Q: How can I get temporary internet access?
A: Students can check out a Kajeet MiFi from the student helpdesk for a month or more at a time.

Q: What comes with the Kajeet?
A: The Kajeet comes in a blue carrying case with a mifi and a charger.

Q: Does the Kajeet provide web filtering?
A: Kajeet provides their own web filtering along with our ACPS web filtering.

Q: Are there different levels of web filtering through the Kajeet?
A: Kajeet offers elementary and secondary levels of web filtering.

Q: How much data is provided for the Kajeet?
A: Each day the Kajeet provides 500 MB of data. Once a student has reached the quota it will not reset until the next day.

Q: Can the Kajeet be used at any time?
A: The Kajeet will work from 6am-midnight daily. From midnight-6am it will no longer provide internet access.  

Q: What if I don’t turn in my Kajeet on time? Will it still work?
A: The Kajeets are managed through a web console so once the due date comes the device will no longer provide internet access until it is reset by the web administrator.

Q: What services do the web console for the Kajeet provide?
A: The console can monitor internet activity, remotely disable a device, suspend a lost or stolen device, and automatically turn off service when a device is not turned in on time.

LOANERS

Q: What if I forget my chromebook or forget to charge it?
A: Students are expected to bring their chromebook to school everyday fully charged. ACPS does maintain a small number of loaner units at all secondary schools which can be checked out for the day.

Q: Can I reserve a loaner?
A: Loaners are distributed on a first come first served basis. Students and teachers may not reserve loaners.

PRINTING

Q: I don’t have a printer at home. Can I print at school?
A: Each school provides print stations that students can use everyday.

Q: How many pages can I print?
A: The student helpdesk technicians provide each student with a certain print quota to avoid waste. If a student needs more pages they can request an increase from the student helpdesk.
