What are the TSIPs?

In compliance with Virginia state certification code, Alexandria City Public Schools has incorporated the technology standards for instructional personnel (TSIPs) into their technology plan and approved teacher education programs. The Virginia code requires that coursework in technology satisfies the state content requirements and that licensed personnel demonstrate proficiency in these state technology standards for licensure and renewal. Teachers new to a Virginia school district have one year from the day they sign their contract to complete this requirement.

ACPS offers the Technology Integration Education (TIE) program which satisfies the technology standards. This program provides hands-on training for instructional personnel to develop and demonstrate proficiency in the required state technology standards and thus meets the requirements for licensure or renewal. The state technology standards are often referred to as the TSIPs (Technology Standards for Instructional Personnel).

Options for Meeting Technology Requirements

There are several options available to ACPS employees for meeting the technology requirements for licensure.

A. TIE Program

The TIE Program training is a nine week course offered three times each year: fall, winter, and spring.

B. College Courses and/or Technology Training

If you have taken a technology class and wish to have it evaluated for TSIP certification you will need to complete the online TSIP Coursework Verification form.

C. Virginia Teacher Preparation Programs

If an individual graduated from or completed a Virginia state-approved teacher preparation program since December 1998, the program by design satisfies the technology requirement. Please submit your transcript and syllabus through the TSIP Coursework Verification form.
